I'm in the process of building my upgraded rig and I reached the first boot stage tonight. I'm using a P8P67 Pro (from the MM), an i7 2700k and a Corsair H100.

Now I've built a few PCs in my time going right back to 486's but this bios is pretty detailed compared to any previous ones! To say I haven't a clue where to start is an understatement. I decided that the best policy was to load defaults (3.5ghz) and see what temps I am getting at idle; I dont have an HD connected up yet so it's purely bios based.

First issue is temps. Using two Apache's on the h100 I am getting 43c and climbing under idle in the bios on the medium fan setting. This seems high:eek: Do I need to apply some AS5 instead of the stock stuff and re-seat?

Second issue was when I change stuff like the multiplier, it doesn't seem to have changed after rebooting; the reported speed is still stock even though the field for the multiplier is set to 40.

Finally, are there any guidelines to how to approach overclocking this board once I have it assembled? There seem to be plenty of tools and options, but it's knowing what order to change stuff in. What overclock and temps should I be aiming for?

Im pretty sure BIOS loads the CPU to about 50% (or it used to be that way).

The multiplier does change, the mobo wont recognise it. It will recognise RAM speeds (if say you unclocked from 1600 to 1333), but never OC CPU.
You need to get into an OS to test it.

Had this issue with mine, thought it was being silly, but when I stressed it, it does change.

The P8P67 reports it as 3.3Ghz on the overview screen, but it should say '@ 4.0ghz' next to it or whatever you've clocked it to.

Build the PC, install windows, THEN overclock it. If it isn't stable whilst installing windows you're just wasting your time trashing windows installs.

Don't worry about the temps in bios, unless you forgot to plug a fan in or something and its hitting 90 degrees :D

The bios doesn't show what the overclocked speed is until you go into advanced mode :

Same as Scythe said get your pc built/os installed then think about overclocking it.
