Have now got my i5-2500k running at 4.2ghz @ 1.275 in BIOS Coretemp shows 1.3461 not sure if that is correct... max temp 77C stock cooling.
I checked how hot it went with voltages set to auto @ 3.7 and it got to 67C
So far Prime stable for 11 minutes Small FFTs... I am quite pleased with this as I was aiming for about 4.3 with stock cooling so am about on the money.
EDIT: Prime was unstable after 16 minutes... so I just installed Speedfan and its telling me my vcore is only 1.18v but temps in Coretemp get up to 77C! My next purchase will be a decent cooler to push up the vcore and keep the temps down, but I just wanted to see what stock cooling was like. Is Coretemp accurate?
EDIT: Pushed the vcore up to 1.28 in the BIOS CPU-Z and Speedfan showing 1.192v temps about the same max 77C will see how long Prime lasts. As it stands seems I have plenty of scope to up the voltages as long as I get a better cooling solution which could knock 10-15 off my temps.
EDIT: Decided to back off and wait until I receive a new cooler, just trying the OC tuner which gives me 4ghz automatically will see if that is stable now.
EDIT: Gave up on the 4ghz OC tuner overclock because it wanted to give the chip 1.240v as according to CPU-Z and at the temps I was seeing I did not want to push it higher then that. At the low volts I was using and the high temps I was seeing a decent air cooler is a must.
