/hides behind large flame-proof shield...

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I started doing the P90X program. For those of you who want more information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P90X
http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x.do?code=P90XDOTCOM

I'm really enjoying it so far, and it's most definitely starting to change my body for the better. Just wanted to see whether anyone else around here had tried it? A quick search shows a couple of wary mentions, worried of being shot down, so I thought I'd go straight for the deep end.

P.S. - I'm aware the program is all based around stuff a bit of research could tell you, and I am aware it is all stuff you can do at your own gym or home without buying the program. However, I enjoy it because it is foolproof, and all I have to do is press play on my laptop once a day and do what it tells me for 60 minutes. It is extremely cheesy, loaded with product placement and comes across as very gimmicky, but it has got me off my arse and into an exercise regime so I have no complaints. :)

EDIT: I will post progress pics as I go along if people are interested, I'm currently 6'1 and 12 stone... below are some pics from Sunday, I also apologise for the attempts at posing, I am fairly clueless with that part, but all constructive criticism is welcome!

Never tried it myself and cant see me wanting to, but if its encoraged you to get into doing exercise then good stuff. Thats the most important part of any program its got to keep the user intrested and give them the results they are looking for.

Precisely. One of the threads I found on search got ripped apart for being a 'scam' and a 'gimmick', however all of the exercises are perfectly viable and at no point does it say you'll be a 15 stone 5% body fat monster after 90 days. It does promise results, but if you stick to the program then the results will be delivered.

Just about to start it myself and have just ordered the iron gym JML pullup bar thing and a mat. I already have the dumbells so can't wait. I need a new challenge! :)

Awesome! :D Good to see someone else around here is doing the same thing. Watch out for the Yoga... it sounds a bit poncy but it's the hardest workout by far!

lol I don't doubt it! I just did Ab ripper x just for lolz and my omg its hard! I bet I wont be able to stand up straight tomorrow! :D

Start date will be Mon 2nd Aug officially!

I have done P90x twice! Actually I finished my second 12/13 week program a couple of months ago before recently starting stronglifts 5x5

I've done (P90x Classic) two times with a 2-3 weeks rest in between, I also stuck to the program word for word and move for move
The only thing I didn't do is (I did NOT stick to the nutrition guide) in my opinion I eat fairly well anyway so just ate like I normally do
which could have been a mistake as I feel I could have put on more mass if I had been eating the recommended stuff (but who knows?)

Firstly I didn't need to loose any weight because I figured I was quite skinny to start with at 6,3 and 13 stone so P90x has helped me put some weight on.

I used to run pretty much 5 times a week between 5-10k a day so I did have the runner look (if there is such a thing) anyway since starting
stronglifts and eating like a horse I am a weighty 15 stone now :D I do feel and look a lot healthier thankfully but I am a little loose around the middle
lately truth be told, Although all my other measurements have gone up a little too and my strength is coming up nicely so it's not all fat thank god.

In all honesty since stopping running I only wanted to get my ass off the sofa which P90x does 100% well, The only part that was/is annoying is yoga x.
It's a very hard 90 minutes and although I can do it and did do it, I personally think it's the least enjoyable one out of the entire workouts! (It bores me to tears :p )
but apart from that it's a good program and I will definitely be doing another round or more of P90x when I finish trying out a couple more other programs.

Oh yeah did I tell ya, yoga x sucks ;)

Yeah I'm also not sticking to their nutrition guide... I have no particular desire to become 'ripped', I am just ensuring I eat healthily and eat enough to put on weight.

I think now I have Yoga X as a challenge I will enjoy it more... it annoyed me immensely in the first couple of weeks as they kept talking about being calm and relaxing your facial muscles, when after falling over for the 20th time I'm standing shouting **** YOU at my laptop... not so calm!

I'm on my rest day today (I started it on a Saturday so everything is 2 days ahead), think I'll do X-Stretch later though just to try and loosen up my hamstrings a bit more... they are far too tight and it stops me doing a lot of the exercises properly that require straight legs, like in Ab Ripper X etc.

Thinking about giving this a go. Just wondering regarding nutrition, many of the products mentioned are pretty hard to source in the UK, anyone who has done the programme before have any tips on substitues from products we don't get over here.

Cheers

What products in particular were you meaning? I'm not strictly following the nutrition guide, just eating well and also taking whey protein as a supplement. There is a lot of marketing mixed in with it so you're probably better looking for cheaper substitutes than the BeachBody range whether you can get them or not!

In other news I'm now on my third week... my brother (who has always been bigger and stronger than me) was up yesterday, Chest and Back day for me, so decided he'd 'have a go at my "workout"'... he wasn't mocking me so much by the end of it, and can't move today! :p

Hey, cheers for response. Don't really know anything about all this protein powder business or creatin etc, wondering where best to get the cheap stuff that isn't useless. Correct about all the marketing, its a minefield. Also, it suggests having 8 egg whites for breakfast etc...surely that is a bit much just cost wise for breakfast.

Nice one making it to 3rd week, looks solid.

It's alright once you get into it... the first week will hurt if you haven't done much with your muscles recently, but after that it feels good! :D

The place that seems to get recommended most for protein is www.myprotein.co.uk, it's very cheap compared to the stuff you get on the high street and supposedly higher quality too. I do however have to admit that I don't know a huge amount about it myself, and whether it suits you will depend on your goals etc!

8 egg whites is a bit hardcore I agree! I'm sure there are people around here that can suggest more suitable alternatives/diet guidelines...

EDIT: The diet section of GordyR's thread at the top of the forum is very useful for general information. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17401146

Aye, have had a look around myprotein, all seems pretty clear and cheap.

Cheers for pointing me in right direction, is a useful thread that one aye.

Yeah that's the Body Fortress protein that I'm currently using. Works out as about the same price as stuff on myprotein when you take the size of the tubs into account though.

Shoulders and Arms today, one of the more enjoyable workouts! Missed Plyo yesterday because I had stomach cramps so might throw in Cardio X today as well if I have the time.

I'm a big believer that taste doesn't really matter with protein, but body fortress stuff really is foul!
