I have just recieved my Q6600 G0 to replace my E6300. The giga byte web site has this as a supported processor and I am on the F10 bios.

My problem is however when I installed this the computer would just keep restarting. I reset the CPU voltage and speed to auto before the install.

I reinstalled the E6300 and it works fine.

I need to try this agin so can anyone give me a procedure to follow or what they think the problem might be.

Thanks in advance.

Tried again. Reset the cmos. Loaded F10 into the recovery bios. Loeded bios defaults etc. Still the same constant rebooting with the occasional good boot. Any other suggestions.

I think next it's test the processor in my P965 DS3P. Could be a voltage issue? Current vdrop on E6300 from 1.325 to 1.296.

PSU 600W and was tested with no HDD or CD. 8 pin CPU power connected but not PCI molex connector.

I doubt it's a vdroop issue, tho set it to 1.325v if you wish to test the theory (the Quads default vcore is probably around 1.28v).

But it's nice to have the luxury of having the DS3P too. Be sure to update its BIOS to F5 if it isn't already.

Just tried it in my DS3P rev3.3 works fine. I guess it's time for a new motherboard when I can find an X38 DDR2 one for about £100 unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Just a quick update Gigabyte support suggested building the baord with 1 stick of RAm and GPU outside the case. The processor works like this but as soon as I add a second stick the reboot cycle starts. It is Geil 6400 ULL with +0.3 added in the bios.

I now have the Q6600 running in a P35 DS3R fine.

Isn't the Q6600 G0 a 1333MHZ part and the DS4 P965 v1 a 1066MHz board. MAybe its just not fully compatible.

Guess its down to luck, got one at 3.2Ghz on a rev.1 DS4. Tried different RAM?

I think i'm going to give up on the P965 DS4. Just bought the P35 DS3R to replace it. It's working fine and probably cheaper than buying 4Gb RAM and Vista did not need a reload. Thanks for the advice though.

Mine works fine with Geil ultra + ocuk pc8500.
Yes it should do but luck of the draw I guess.

Well got an interesting scenario, ran into the SAME problem with a DS4 Rev 1 today, have found a fix but its iffy. Used the red channel for the RAM instead of the yellow Dimm slots for 2GB (rig had 3 GB 2 1gb and 2 512), worked and booted everytime until i cleared CMOS and tried again, then back to ye olde never start reboot, so seems whatever i did right was cleared with the CMOS lol, even got it to 3.6Ghz @ 1.375v for a time. Gave up as even if i did get it running it'd not be acceptable as i need all Dimms populated. Funny thing is, its running just dandy at 3.4GHz 1.334v on a DS3 965 rev 1.0... I do not think its power related as it did this even when set to stock and actually for a time booted and ran 3.6Ghz, must be some BIOS or hardware issue with this revision.

Had much the same problem,
Had 6300 with 2gb geil 965 ds3 got 3.5 gig .then came problems when i install Q6600 go .
tried f7,f8,f9,f10,f12 bioses all the same problem ,reboots from bios many clearing of cmos etc.also lots of stabilty issues within windows xp pro, overclocks seemed ok then reboot for no reason.
Changed to P35-DS4 mobo and absolutly perfect! would recommend for q6600 go. when i overclock to high,I just get the usual freezing of screen in windows or BSOD ,but then it will just restart fine ,965ds3 just looped its head off, without even getting into windows.

Definetly luck of draw then :) Have updated 4 1.0 DS4 with Q6600 and each run 3.2, 2x 3.4 and 3.6 with 4 DIMMS, this is the first time i had this issue. The Quad is fine so far at 4hrs+ quad prime so far with the DS3 1.0

965 sorry :) Same with the DS3, i've got 2 DS3 35s and they work well with the Quads with no problems, both builds for peeps though and will be stock rigs :o

I've got this logged with gigabyte as it's suppossed to support this processor. I'll let you know what they say. Probably just blame the memory.

Glad to know i'm not the only one with this problem.

Yep if they got an answer i'd like to know! Tried with Geil Value 667 i think, Geil Ultra 800, Gskill HZ DDR800, Crucial PC5300 and Crucial Ballastix. No love.
