Hi,

I have been looking for Yate Loon fans but cannot find them are they also referred to as NEXUS fans? if they are i have found a 120mm fan:

Nexus 120mm Real Silent Case Fan Black & White, 22,8 dB(A), 36,87 CFM, 3 Wires

is this a yate loon fan?

If so is it any good for my 120.2? if so i will order a couple.

Thanks

Yes it's a re-wound Yate loon and the PA series were design by Cathar who used the specs of a Yate loon DS12SL as the reference fan tha PA was designed around.

It just means it will be running at the same speed as a yate loon is at 9v which is fine as I run my yates at 7-9v.

However a yate loon should be cheaper and it will give you the full 12v option for ultimate cooling and the scaled down voltage that the nexus give (if used on a fan controller).

Yate loon are sold in the UK too, you're just not looking hard enough.

Ok thanks i have found a pair of yate loons :) just ordered them!

One problem i have just realised! i will be mounting my radiator at the top of my case, i am cutting two 120mm blow holes to pull cold air in. However the yate loon fans i have just ordered have closed corners, so i will have to screw through my case, through the fan and into the radiator with one screw won't i? in order to mount it?

Problem is were would i get decent screws like that, did you have this problem with your yate loon fans?

Yes I did, but all you need are some self taping screws.

How ever you need to be careful with the length of these screws as to not puncture the radiator.

I use 1 1/2" screws which are long but this is because I have to go through a radgrill and some rubber anti-vibration sleeves.

If you are not using either of the above 1 1/4" screws should be enough.

However, I'm not sure on the width of the thread you need. Check thermochill site and it should list the screws it comes with to mount fan to radiator. Just get this size but in the length above.

Or get a hacksaw or dremel and cut off the closed flange. Only downside to the yates :)

Ok thanks, i am going through a rad grill and a layer of anti vibration stuff so should be similar to what i need.

Thanks for your help :)

No problem but be very careful - see punctured rads with screws a lot. Don't over tighten.

I'm actually using a shroud on my new build, relieves some fan pressure and with it noise. So I'm tapping the shroud with a 6/32 tap and using some UNC machined screws with socket capped heads.

Just got another quick question!

38mm screws = 1/2" in length which i will need to go through the rad grill, gasket and fans, however i am not sure about the screw thread, i think it is 3.5mm does this sound right to you? do you have a PA series radiator?

Also, i have ordered a swiftech microres resovoir, it comes with plastic barbs, am i ok to replace these plastic barbs with nickel ones? i have ordered some just wanted to check it would be ok.

Thanks

I would get some 1 1/4 and try those first and if they get through to the rad then that will be fine.

I use rubber fan gaskets not the neoprene foam which will squash up and possibly make the screw puncture your rad. Just to be on the safe side.

Should be fine, just get pan head style screws.

Yeah I seen people running nickel plated brass barbs in the Micro res, just make sure the thread is the right one. Not sure if it is G1/4 or not.

Ok, thanks would these screws be availbale at b & q or halfords or somewhere like that? or would i have to get them off internet?

Also i am mounting the radiator to the top of my case, i have cut two 120mm blowholes in the top today, should my fans be sucking in cold air or blowing out the hot air?

which is the best setup?

Thanks
