guys im on Vodafone right now - just recently started a new 12 month contract with them but realised the signal was not as strong as it was with o2 in my house so got my PAC code and moved it across to Tesco Mobile (o2 network as im sure u all know).

All went fine upto the point when i gave my PAC to tesco on thrusday afternoon and waited til today to transfer over. I believe if i want to cancel my Vodafone contract i have to do it within 7 days - i took the contract out on the 29th of July. As of now i seem to be able to recieve calls on Tesco Sim card if i put it in my phone but also seem to be able to make calls from my Voadfone sim card with my number showing up - however it wont receive calls goes through to Tesco voicemail

ive waited on Tesco customer services for 2 hours and now theyre closed despite the call still being held "in the queue" apparently can any1 advise me on wtf has happened? Vodafone says its nothing to do with them and number hasnt ported correctly, im kinda running out of time in roder to keep hold of my number and being able to cancel the contract in time!

Help!!

You totally buggered it when you didn't cancel your contract first, I'll give you that much. You are now probably out of time to cancel on Voda but you should have phoned them first, they should be able to cancel regardless of the number problem.

AFAIK A pac code basically inserts a pointer in the system. Lets say in your case it puts a pointer on the Voda Phoneline database saying "no, goto the tesco phone database with this ID". It's a bit more complicated than that but you get the idea. I think your pointer is probably broken between the two systems or just has only completed on one side.

thanks for the reply. im deeply frustrated right now. ive been on the phone since 810am trying to sort this mess out.

all i can say is o2 customer service wins hands down compared to the likes of Vodafone and Tesco - then again i wasnt expecting much from Tesco as i needed a quick stop over in order to port my number out so i could cancel out my Vodafone contract within the 7 days.

So you are saying i can cancel straight out of Vodafone right now and not risk losing my number?

just to clarify i can make outgoing and ingoing calls on my Tesco sim card but only make outgoing calls on my Vodafone sim card - when i call my number when i have my Vodafone sim card in my phone it goes through to Tesco voicemail.

I have no idea technically what you have done but your link to the number shouldn't really be a cause for them stopping you from cancelling. You realise this is the 7th day right? You have to cancel now or you're committed.

Your number may not be recovered, but in all honesty it's probably your own fault as you tried to migrate a number before cancelling the contract. Providers tag the number as being owned by a contract, so when you broke that link who knows wtf happened.

I'd cancel first, get another PAC later.

cheers again

after numerous calls to retards on the other end they assure me i 'should' be ok as ive requested the PAC from day two and it was actioned on the 5th as the new network accepting the number. vodafone said they made a note on the account and if it does in fact lead over 7 days they will see the account circumstances and i hope they will let me off!

basically from what i understand once a PAC has been sent to the new network once successfully ported it should automatically cut off my vodafone number and thus cease the contract. for some bizarre reason in this case it has not happened. the porting department at vodafone said they will have it sorted by 4pm as i managed to get through to them at 10am (they open at 9). im assuming at this stage vodafone havent fulfilled their part as everything works ok on Tesco/o2's side with regard to accepting/recieving/voicemail. ive also asked for my PAC code from them just to see who is actually holding my number. all i can say is that i hope Vodafone dont turn around and say ive got to pay out for the 12 month contract!
