I've just ended my current contract and am looking to get an Iphone 4S. The best contract for the 4S appears to be with Three on the one plan for £35 a month (i've worked out costs of contract vs buying outright and they're quite similar for my usage)

The guy at 3 mentioned that they could move my number to a PAYG 3 deal, and then after 30 days i would then be able to port my number back to a new 3 deal that i take out. Is this even possible as i thought a PAC code was only for switching networks and couldnt be used for a 3 to 3 deal.

That seems like quite a long time. So what kind of timeframe would i be looking at to do it myself? If i get say an o2 PAYG sim card and give them my PAC code today and also ordered my new contract today also. How long roughly do you think i'd be waiting before i was all set up on my new deal?

Are you coming from another network?

If so, why port to PAYG, then contract? Why not just go straight to contract?

Three UK (like most other operators) can swap your number from a PAYG SIM to a contract one if you still wish to go down this route. (although this isn't done with a PAC)

Sorry, should've said. I'm currently with Three. However to upgrade they're offering no discounts so i'm better to cancel and take up a new contract through them and go through Quidco to get £115 cashback

Well in theory, what you are trying to do is possible but I wouldn't recommend it.

Best way is to get your PAC from three, port to ANOTHER network, after the port is complete on another network, call them up and say that your coverage is rubbish or something similar, get a PAC from them and port it back into the three account. The actual porting process only takes one working day now, so it can be all done rather quickly.

Yeah.. I would recommend porting it away from Three (rather than their PAYG) to avoid them screwing up something!
