Is it my imagination but have I seen posts in the past that have said it is actually possible to port a number from O2 online to O2 in-store and vice-versa?
I feel silly asking this to be honest :)

I got my PAC code from O2 a few minutes ago as I wanted to get hold of the K800i and O2 wanted to charge me £200 to make the upgrade (£150 after negotiation).
I can move to Dolphin 19 at Orange and get the K800i for free, however I did like the look of the K800i in Silver which is exclusive to O2.
So my two questions before I give Orange a call and move to them are:

1. Can I take a PAC code issued by O2 online and use it to transfer a number to an O2 contract purchased in a store?
2. Is the K800i exclusive to O2 online or is it available in O2 in-store too?

Cheers experts.

O2 Store just sent me my PAC today to move to O2 Online, so i'd say the opposite is 100% fine, just waiting for O2 online to dispatch my silver k800i (Silver is O2 Exclusive, black is everywhere) :D

Thanks for the reply.
I do rather like the look of the K800i in silver (I just didn't feel it was worth the £150 O2 online wanted to charge me as an upgrade), so I think I may well call in at the weekend and see if they have it in store.

Yeah i hope you get it and like it, O2 online offered it me free with O2 online text 500 (750 texts/mins per month £35/mo) Which was fine for me.

Good luck :D

You can port fine between them, as technically they are different companies, which is why you can port. Don't ask why, just know that you can.

That will be an upgrade price. Try and speak to retentions (not upgrades) saying you are leaving because orange have give it for free and see if they can reduce the handset price on your upgrade.

I tried that yesterday when I moved from "threatening to leave" to "actually requesting my PAC".
I called up and requested my PAC and was asked the old "Why do you want to leave O2 question".
Pretty quickly I was offered either £5 off my monthly rental or £100 credit if I didn't want to upgrade my phone.
I then mentioned the K800i.
In silver I was once again quoted £199 and it was made quite clear early on there would be no shift on that price.
In black there appeared to be a little play and eventually I was offered it for £99.
However in black Orange can let me have it for free even on a 12 month contract at only £19 per month.

To be honest I don't think O2 were that bothered in keeping me and I don't mean that in a negative way - I can quite understand their position.
I'm not a big spender and I'm either a break even or maybe even a loss to the network.
I'll see if I can pick the Silver K800i up in-store on a 12 month contract, if not I'll go with Orange this time around I think.

Does anyone happen to know what the cheapest in-store tarrif would net me the K800i (Silver) for free?
I'm pretty sure in-store tarrifs are different to online ones - they don't do a £20 per month in store if I remember correctly.

It really depends on the banding O2 have put you in. When I spoke to retentions and said I wanted to cancel my contract as I could get a Z610i free elsewhere, they wouldn't budge one bit on the handset price. They were more than willing to knock £10 off my monthly payment though, and that was without any haggling.
