Is there really much savings these days between the 2? We're looking at August next year for a waterpark hotel, and it seems there's not much in it (don't know if I'm missing something obvious). Flights also seem to be extortionate.

Only package i have ever gone for are flights and hotel together. Not inclusive, only breakfast included at most, not on a resort but a city hotel.

I’ve gone on lots of cheap holidays this way, but this was before the pandemic and also out of season.

I do have a holiday next month to Croatia, flights and hotel for £350 total for 3 days. Sounds good to me.
Unfortunately it's with kids so have to get shatfed on price  .

We live near Hull, we flew Manchester this year, and Newcastle last year. I've flown from Leeds Bradford, Doncaster and humberside in the past. I think any other airports are then way too far. The kids are 9 and 7 so not too bad for travelling, but we definitely missed a trick not having slides this year (last year was first time abroad for them and there were some decent slides on site). There's some learning we've done, never thought of upgrading later though.

Can't believe the prices on package holidays for 2024  Just got back from Tenerife and was looking at where to go next year. Last year we went to Spain for a week which was £3,300 for the four of us. Next year, for the exact same thing inc the same dates is £4,700 lol

We've now just booked the flights, taxis and a luxury private villa with pool for £2,700

Not sure I'd ever do a package holiday again until they get the prices sorted out.
There are cheaper, but tenerife this year cost us 4k, and similar in majorca was 3k last year. I've seen some nice ones in mainland Spain for 3.3k so not too bad. I'm not a fan of crap flights, this year we flew at 6am, so set off from out house around midnight. That first day was a writeoff as I was just so shattered.

Not bad for just over £200 a night in the middle of August

I've never stayed in a villa before, but I assume that's a private pool?

Just had a quick look (can't seem to find an option to sort low to high on my phone), they'd be ideal for a couple but I think the kids would get bored, and foods obviously extra.

Yeah that is the best thing to do, we've done that many times and had some great places - usually wait until last minute though and nab a large/very large villa at off-peak pricing.

It looks to be 6m x 4m (roughly) so it's more of a chill/play pool than a swimming pool, have you look at the satellite view from Google Maps?

I'm not a big fan of open plan, so don't like the kitchen/dining and living area all in the same space, and one small shower room (unless I missed something) would be frustrating especially with how much use they get when on holiday.

It's hard to go back to hotels/shared accommodation and amenities after going to private villa's or apartments, only reason to do it is for the kids to mix with others, or the adults if you like talking to randoms :)
The issue we had was every 5 minster the kids were wanting entertaining as the pool was a bit boring. The times when they stopped bothering us was when they were playing with other kids. I can't see young kids enjoying a villa that much. I've just been looking at places and it actually works out more going separate than package. Jet2 have a place in rhodes for 3800 (all inclusive) with a large splash bit onside. Expedia has it at more than that (although that was for flights in July as can't select sugust on there yet, but I can't imagine the cist of flights to go down). The taxes and fees on the flights are horrendous.
