Pad or Paste?

It's time to redo the heatsink paste on my laptop and was wondering what the current recommendations are.... Pad or paste?

If its a thick pad will have to be a pad. If it's a thin pad go for paste(only on the CPU/GPU though).

Most people use paste
Though watched der8uer video
Probably spelled that wrong
And the type of pad he demonstrated was exceptionally thin
It was a few degrees worse than paste
But easy to apply and apparently will outlast the paste by years
Though have no personal experience of using pads except the thicker ones on
Gpu ram and vrms
Thinner is what's required not thicker
The idea is to fill tiny imperfections
Between the die and heatsink not to
Put a thick sandwich between them
