Hell!! \m/
So after recent problems with crime, I asked neighbours permission for a lock and they added a lock and day after its gone, its illegal to lock them I hear.

Between houses theres an entry that leads to a gate and over is our garden. Also whats next climb the roof? direct entry to house.

God forbid if they need oour help neighbours should get along lol

The neighbours have obviously half-inched the lock. So what we've established is that the recent problems with crime are actually your neighbours on the rob.

Another case successfully solved by Tony Williams P.I.

Communal Access?

That's what I'm guessing. A space between terraced houses that allows acces to more than one rear garden. Pretty common here.

Didn't know it was illegal to lock access, although you'd clearly need to make sure all neighbours had a key / combination for it.

Well my terrace has a row of gardens, each with a gate leading to a fenced off path which is generally used for keeping the bins but is also the rear access.

The gate into this fenced off path from the road has a lock which all houses of the terrace have a key for.

Since the whole terrace is a new build (last 3 years) I have trouble seeing a lock on communal access as illegal.

In my old house all of the communal access gates along the street had lockable gates fitted and then each house had a key for the one relating to their property so I'm pretty certain it's not illegal.

Have you tried speaking to your neighbours in something which resembles the English language?

Why don't you talk to your parents or landlord about it?

I'm assuming you don't own your own house at 24

That's a rather silly assumption? I'm 28 and I've just moved into my second home, I bought my first 6 years ago at 22.

However, knowing the O/P's history he lives with his parents, got caught driving without insurance and overall is just a bit of a pleb.

BTW would you believe the council tried to charge my parent's and there neighbour for maintaining on an alleyway between the two house's which is just a short cut for the people who live behind......

I think it was something like £700 they wanted from my parents and their neighbour opposite the alleyway.
only because they bought their houses and the council decided the alley should be part of those houses but not owned by either so it didn't have to cover the cost of replacing the tarmac with fresh ......

black line is the regular path and the yellow fuzzy one is the alley

My mum complained to the council and said if she's paying to maintain it then it's no longer public and they agreed to gate it off at each end with my parents having the key to 1 side and the neighbours the key to the other side.
they just use it to store the bin now.

I bet it certainly pee'd off the few people who live behind lol.....

BTW would you think this tiny little area on the edge of Nottingham is actually considered one of the worst areas in Nottingham lol

note "police on low wood road" and then not how close it is to my parents lol literally the road that runs down the side of the state.

police don;t raid or stop cars near my parents area without mp5's lol :eek:

I don't think I''ll ever sell that house if I inherit it :D

I can't be bothered to find something recent but this was 2010 april > 2011 january
Members were told that the tragic death of grandmother Susie Southern in an arson attack at her South Snape Close home was one of 778 offences on Snape Wood since last April – an increase of 93 crimes or 13.5% on the year before. Offences had included:

TWO "high-profile and serious" stabbings of young people;

TWENTY-seven street-robberies, all involving young people as offenders or victims;

A TOTAL of 137 violent offences, in which young people were again offenders or victims. The figure was a three per cent increase in this category, which has fallen in other parts of Bulwell.

AND more than 250 offences of anti-social behaviour, which involved young people and gang-related intimidation of communities – an increase of 18%.

The area one committee were asked to provide 3,000 to support extra police patrols on the estate.
If I remember right the arson attack death was some poor womans flat having a wheely bit pushed against the only door to her flat and set on fire whilst she was asleep.

I can only assume she was known locally as a grass back when I lived there about 16 years ago people would only get all of their windows smashed so I guess times have changed.
