Page file

in theory the start value should be 1 1/2 times the amount of RAM you have, so in your case 3069MB (same amount as mine as i also have 2Gig)

if u look at the windows recommended setting it should state this value too

NONSENSE!

There are rules of thumb, but they are nonsense.

Use your computer a lot, doing the most HDD thrashing tasks.

Then look at what the page file has been set to by windows. Add a little overhead say 256megs and then set the MIN and MAX to equal that number.

Putting the PAGEFILE on different drive than the OS will net you a performance increase as long as the secondary drives is at least half as fast as the other drive.

Well sorry for giving a bit of advice, lol - no need to be so abrasive about it.

After looking around at a few other forums after doin searches about it, that was what was suggested, so i went along with it.

dont get too P##### off with what other people say, he is correct in saying that setting the min/max page file at the same size prevents fragmentation, size for size in ram is OK, because it is like a replica copy of your ram files, which will run just fine..............

i may have to set the min and max as the same then, cheers for the advice and explanation.

I'm not really p'd off, just a bit surprised at the way some ppl go about explaining things, cheers again grouse

Sorry, I was being an stupid 'internet genius'. It's just when I see these old heuristics trooped out, that may of once made sense with 32 megs of ram, but are now just computer folklore with no basis when we have 2 gigs, I become irrascible!
