Hard drive or ram issues then. Run a few passes of memtest86 on your memory and perform an error scan of the hdd using something like hdtune.
 
Spyware does not normally do that, it's purpose is to spy not destroy. No point in formatting without running the scans as you'll just get the same problem again if it is a hardware problem.
 
Yeah do the memtest and Seatools is good for testing hard drives (works for most makes in my experience, even though designed for Seagate drives).

EDIT: you just posted above me, Crucial RAM does seem to fail a lot can be that.
 
Yeah CD or I think it works on a floppy too. If you want to test the RAM properly it's recommended to leave it on for a few hours (memtest is just a continious test).
