Ok so both the RS:V packs have moved to free now (red and black)
GOW pack is free next month.
The lost planet map packs are now free as well.
and now apparently the GRAW2 Throwback mappack is going free as well.

while im all for free mappacks the people who have paid for these must feel they have been shafted, (cept GOW cause we all knew this was free in sept)

Any other DLC gone free?

I don't know if I would think I had been shafted, as price drops are the norm for most things. Admittedly dropping to free is a bit different, but I think users have to decide if they want it now are if they can wait. So long as they say that it will become free then I think it is a win-win.

I might feel shafted if it wasn't announced from the start that it would be free at some point, but even then it would depend on how long it took to become free.

In cases where it is known all along that at a certain time in the future it would become free (GoW) there really is no reason to feel like you've been ripped off. The choice is simple, pay for the maps now and get a good few months enjoyment out of them before they turn free, or wait until they turn free before getting them.

Can be used in either mode.
Nice :)

I never pay for DL content unless it affect matchmaking in my favourite games (H2 :(, I stopped playing GoW because my lack of DL content booting me out of games). I presume it will all be free anyway and never see it as vital content, like all the crackdown rubbish I avoided that didn't add much to the game.

I had to buy that in order to play co-op with a friend. I had 300 points already so it only cost me £4.25 really..

I dislike DLC blocking multiplayer access :(

If it's single player content I never bother.

favorite ;)

apart from the spelling mistake I agree entirely with this post.

I'd have written pretty much the same thing (except spelled correctly) had Kreeeee not beaten me to it.

I bought the RS:V packs becuase i wanted them, i knew it would be free eventually, but got the playtime when they where not.

The good thing about them being free after 6 months or so is (IMO)
Online at release - busy starts to fade
Paid DLC Released - gets a bit busy again due to fresh life in the game, but starts to fade
DLC becomes free - Another burst of people playing the game again for a while, to see the packs and exhaust them.

The only gripe i have is, if they at packs that cost a lot like the RS:V/GRAW ones then it should be a while before it is free. The GoW ones (which iirc where a lot cheaper) there is less grumble for it becoming free.

I didn't buy the GoW ones cos i knew they would be free eventually and didn't have much desire for them, but i will dl them now they are free.

I thought the main reason some content was going free is that Microsoft dont want to charge for DLC that is free on the PS3, ie the R6V packs became free when the PS3 version was launched and now the PS3 version of graw2 is out they've done the same. Sounds like a good thing to be honest to make it free after a while or other reasons, I think DLC is going to be a bigger part of this Gen of gaming more than pretty graphics and motion controls.

Sooo not true. I loved the fact that they added both MP and SP stuff. I'm sick of all this extra MP stuff that games get, so some SP stuff was welcome. It also added a wide range of stuff, new modes, new cars, new co-op stuff. The best DLC in my view.

I wonder if that will ever go free?

It all just felt like a load of tacked on rubbish to me, but then again the main game was too short and shallow. they should have worked on the game longer to incorporate the DLC properly into the full release.

I want all games with DLC to be multiplatform then please!

It makes sense to me for Microsoft to do this, if for example you had both a PS3 and 360 and a game came out on the PS3 with the DLC on the Disc already, it would be hard for MS or the developer to come out with the same content and charge you for it. Personally I hope all DLC will be free (but it wont), wonder how much more money developers make from each bit of DLC compared with the cost of making it. With Mark Rein talking about maybe not being able to put everything on a DVD9 thats on the PS3 BD for UT3, I would hope Epic stick to thier guns and make it a free DLC.

that's what they tried with GoW but they got tied my MS demanding fees for putting it up on the market place iirc.
