I am trying to transfer some files from one PC to another. But the transfer speed is stupidly slow ever for wireless.. Both PC's have excellent signal strength and a full 54mbps connection speed.. But my files are transfering at less than 10kbps..

Any ideas why?

1 PC is on 32bit Vista Home Premium the other is on XP 32bit.. Router is a Linksys WAG200

Vista and XP dont always get along very well, but it shouldnt be that bad, on my gigabit lan, transfers from the vista PC to one of my XP pc's normally only manage about 200mbps, while vista to vista or xp tp xp manage 500+mbps.

One thing that I found helps is to initiate the copy from the XP computer, and pull the file from vista, rather that using the vista pc to push the file across if you get what I mean.

See if it makes any difference in speed based on which computer your using. Assuming perfect signal and no competition with other wireless devices nearby, you should get 20mbps IP throughput on a 54mbps wireless lan. The other 34mbps are "lost" to wireless signalling protocols and error correction.
