Painkiller – Redemption, a new installment in the first-person shooter series originated by People Can Fly before they were bought by Epic Games. The game is to be launched through digital distribution later this month, and refers to it as an add-on, though we have no doubts that this is a standalone product. The game promises 7-10 hours of gameplay, six levels, and over 6,000(!) enemies.

7 to 10 hours of playtime
Collect souls to transform into a demon
Better graphics with detailed ambience
Over 6000 enemies, more than any previous PK game!
Equip yourself with powerful tarot cards which can be found in secret rooms
Up to 1000 monsters per map to ensure an intense battle with the army of hell
Two heroes – play the characters Belial and Daniel
Better AI – there is nowhere to hide! Enemies will get you

Jowood! :mad::(

Ah, memories, the first Painkiller game was so nice and unique even though the idea was very simple and gameplay was very repetitive and it already had achievements (or whatever it was called at that time).

It also had some wicked weapons :)

Painkiller is probably the best example of a crash and burn series there is.
The original game and Battle out of Hell expansion were excellent. However, they somehow managed to completely mess everything up from then on - poor level design, poor monsters, actually going backwards.

Although the original team had nothing to do with those shoddy later expansions did they? I played one of them (briefly) and it was amazingly bad :(

Bought the complete Painkiller series or whatever the pack was called. Loved the demo back in 2004 but perhaps the passage of time has rendered the experience a little plain since it simply didn't have the same effect or feel when I played it quite recently. It was 'reasonable' but no more than that for me.

I'll check out the reviews for this new one but I'll only part with cash if it really does look worth it, cheap or not.

Been playing this since yesterday, absolute ****:

+It runs at a steady 120fps

-Load times still **** even when "quick"loading which should surely be referred to trading standards
-Ammo placement is highly erratic I seem to end up with loads of secondary ammo for the shotguns and bugger all else
-Levels feel really cramped (bit of research indicated they are just multiplayer levels from earlier games converted to SP...)
-Fights are very repetitive, this would be OK if you were moving forwards but you just seem to be in the same rooms all the time, backtracking, finally think you are going to progress when the checkpoint marker appears but no, it just slams the gate down and sends another waves from behind you
-Game crashes when I try to place my tarot card in between levels 2 and 3, I have officially given up now. It freezes up with looping sound, tab out and there is a tiny dialog with the highly informative message "Fatal Error". That's it. No "Video subsystem failed", no "HAHAHA you ****ing loser why are you still playing this piece of ****", no nothing.
-Mediocre textures and level design

To be fair at least Resurrection had some decent level design, a bit more room, it kinda had a PK vibe going on. But this is another massive step back, I'd say it is probably worse even than Overdose, which is saying something.

I loved the original and the add on pack but have become increasingly dissapointed with every pain killer release since.
I found this though and it sounds promising.

Nordic Games has just announced that Painkiller is coming back with Painkiller Hell & Damnation, promising "the most painful experience for Hell's demonic population since 2004."

Hell & Damnation is going to remake the original People Can Fly classic using Unreal Engine 3

Edit: after looking about and finding out some of the other games "nordic games" has made i have come to the conclusion that unless a major miracle happens.............Painkiller is doomed.
