Well, I've managed to find what seems to be pretty rare.... purple masonry paint! :D (wife likes purple)

Only problem is, it's not quite the shade she really likes (think Cadbury's purple)

What's the best way to get the shade closer to what I want? Slap a coat down first, and then chuck in a smal amount of 'closer' coloured paint to what I want, and mix it in?

Will that work, and if so what type of paint should I be adding to masonry paint so as not to mess it up in any way?

Cheers :)

I got the paint mixer at brewers to alter the mix to make a blue shade lighter by adjusting the mix to remove some pigment and they offer colour matching so between this you should be able to get it correct, if you take in the colour you want they can scan it and work out a mix to recreate it

My local paint shop can match a paint from a fragment of the old stuff. The have a spectrophotometer.

Not only will doing it yourself possibly be unsatisfactory you may end up patchy when you run out of paint. Also different elevations and different light will show any differences.

No no, just the front doorstep :D (meant to put in op)

Which is why it's not quite so vital to get the colour spot on first time.
