Paint Patio Slabs

i was tempted to do it as a some what temp solution, but i haven't yet. i think the issue is that in particular it's hard to get a fully coated finish, but when you do, it looks too solid of a colour, and then, paint can and does eventually peel come off in places.

there must be a reason i've never seen a painted block driveway in the wild.

There is a driveway near me which has been painted.
Looks horrible, completely false and goes patchy very quickly even though he paints it every summer.

@OP, just don't do it, it looks horrible.

Have you tried a good jet wash on them? also use industrial strength bleach (can't remember the proper name atm)
If the slabs are in good condition and stable, maybe consider getting a sealer?
Wet look sealers can "enhance" the existing colour and make them look brighter
