So some kind person decided to empty a whole can of Nitromors all over our car, stripping at least a 3rd of the bodywork back to bare metal, until I find a shonky back street garage to respray it is there anything I can use to get rid of the rust that's already appeared or should I just leave it and let the garage sort it out?

Are you going through insurance and how long until you can get it into a garage?

If it's only going to be a few days, I wouldn't bother as there won't be much to gain.

Wow you must have annoyed someone  Not a very random act.

Get some spray laquer from Halfords perhaps? It'll look crap but if its being resprayed anyway?

Wow! That's so bad, cannot believe some people these days. Halfords do rattle cans of anti rust primer which kills and treats at the same time, could be a good temporary fix for a little while.

I hope it hasn't effected all of your rubber seals too!!

I've tried explaining that to the wife but she's determined to believe it's random, what I didn't want to do was make the respray any more difficult so I wasn't sure what I could and couldn't get away with spraying over it, if it wasn't going in for a respray I'd have just rust proof primed it or something.

It's ruined the wipers, sunroof seal, boot seal, light clusters and all sorts of plastic just under the windscreen side of the bonnet. With the anti rust primer, do I need to remove any existing rust before using it or does it really kill it off?

I remember when some one had this done to their brand new Audi a4 on another forum. Ended up taking 3 months and over 20k to sort (through insurance of course :()

Apparently does all the jobs. Whoever sprays the car shouldn't have any problems, will have far more problems getting the entire car to a sprayable state.

What car is it? Sounds like this is going to be one expensive job!! You're using insurance surely?

The cars not worth much and it was going to be sold next year anyway, unfortunately her insurance excess is stupidly high so the chances are it'll end up being scrapped now, apparently my brother in law knows someone who'll spray it on the cheap, how cheap I've no idea but it has about the same amount of damage as the Audi above.

Don't scrap it just because it's got paint peeling off.

Look at it this way - you'll never have to worry about people parking close to you in the supermarket ever again ;-) Enjoy the rat look - VW owners spend hundreds going for the same effect ;-P

You know, it's quite liberating to drive a car that you don't have to clean etc. You never worry about it getting scratched, you never worry about it getting broken into in the cinema car park, you park it using the trolley in the bay in front of you etc.

Aren't 106's galvanised?

The only person I personally know to get their car vandalised with paint stripper was a teacher in his late 50's, never had a beef with anyone, genuine nice guy. He comes out one day and one side of his people carrier was streaked with paint strippe.

Sometimes people are just morons for the sake of it :(
