Hi
I've had the antec 1200 for a month now i am already getting bored of blue leds. so im thinking of spraying it ORANGE my plan is to give the outside a complete job but leave the black mesh and also leave the inside black. so i just want to know what paint would i use to get a nice gloss finish and get rid of the "pimpley" orange peel texture to the case. would i need to sand it down.

thanks Hassan

hi
i only want the outside of the case coating that might me be difficlut to control using powder coat but could i get a good gloss with some lacquer coats and sanding in between. also what about the plastic trim would that need sanding, or could i just go straight on to primer.

Hassan

I cant comment on painting but the case would be taken to pieces to be powdercoated so would only coat the parts you wanted yet as you have plastic may be a bad idea.

Main panels are most likely powder-coated as they are, a quick sanding down should be all thats needed to get primer to stick well.

The plastic parts will need sanding down to take the gloss or texture off them priming with a plastic-specific primer (which chemically bites into the plastic), before continuing with normal primer.

There's plenty of guides on various forums though.

just get some good primer, let it dry and spray it :-) then let that dry for ages and harden with hair drier....

then lacquer it :-) shiney!

i'll try and get some prices off some powder coaters and see what it comes out to or it might be a trip to the local paint shop. when i prime the chassis will it need a full sanding down or shall i just key it with a scotch pad.

thanks for all the advice so far

right. for the metal panels. ur gonna need to sand them to a flat finish. use either p320 p400 p500 for the smooth plastic parts just some grey scotchbrite. give it all a good degrease. mask up what u dont want painted. plastic prime the plastic parts and allow to dry. then u prob need 2 good coats primer. allow to dry between coats then give it time to dry b4 nibbing it off. when its dry sand it with some 1200 wet n dry again degrease and give it a good cleen. apply the basecoat. prob need 2/3 coats allow to dry between coats. then 2 coats laquer allow to dry between coats. leave for a day of too then get some fine compound/polish and give it all a good polish.
alternatively bring me the case and il paint it at work for you :)

if u do it yourself halfrauds will be ur best bet for the materials.
any questions just ask mate.

thanks sh4dy1981 for the post i'm all filled up with fantastic knowledge everyone has given here, its all coming together in my head, black inside along with mesh front and top fan and the rest orange and set some wire cutters on those blue leds lol. my final question is what kind of paint shall i use enamel, satin, gloss  i was going to use enamel but i dont think it goes well with lacquer i read some where it doesnt adhere well. so will 2-3 coats of clear coat do the job.

thanks
Hassan

the basecoat will dry matt. its the laquer that gives u the gloss. id stay away from enamel paint. take a look at halfrauds that focus st orange would look nice. Electric orange i think its called not sure on the colour code of the top of my head. as u said u could always go to ur local spray shop. if u do the prep then just pay them to paint it. where u from? id be willing to do it for u, im in west sussex though.

im in stoke, im willing to give it a bash my self i just want to make sure i leave no stone unturned because i dont want to make any mistakes and give my self the best chance. if a mess it up it will not only look poop, but it will be money down the drain trying to sort it out.

thanks for the reply and the offer :)
