Came home from work and the missus has decided she wants our interior doors black (thanks tiktok) potentially skirting boards and door frames aswel.

I’ve told her I’ll think about it, first thoughts were well grubby hand marks off 3 kids won’t show up as much but worried it will look abit to dull and dingy as we have grey walls throughout the house (need to change that soon)

Has anyone bought black interior doors or painted theres? Do they look okay? Did you regret it and went back to having white or plain oak doors? (My preference)

My thoughts are:

1: It will not age well and probably just be a fad.
2: Painting doors is actually not as easy as it sounds, and black paint is much more unforgiving.
3: Less light will bounce off them.

White and/or wood finish colours are timeless imo. Gloss has gone out of fashion and generally people go with satin finish.

In terms of actual look, having googled for some images, in the right room it can look quite smart/modern and match any exterior doors you have. But if you do one, you kinda have to do them all, and some rooms with darker paint finishes may end up looking a bit gothic.

I once walked into a house where they'd painted all the skirting boards and doors purple, looked absolutely horrendous.
Don't do it OP.

It can look really good but this might sound daft, you need the right colour black. The shiny black looks bad for me but the dark charcoal, anthracite satins can look really smart .

As long as the walls aren't dark it won't make rooms look dull and dark having really dark doors and trim.
