I'm thinking of painting our kitchen cabinets in a light blue eggshell sort of colour (not decided which yet). The kitchen was purchased from B&Q about 7 years ago and the surfaces are like a laminate effect - no idea what the tech term is. Here's a couple of photos to show what they look like:

Is it ok to paint these type of cabinets? Don't want to start something if they are going to look pants.

It'll be a bit of a ball ache and the finish will not be as clean as you would hope or look particularly nice as the "wood grain" will no longer show

Painting is for old style worn out cabinets from the last century, although it'd still be better to sand and stain those rather than emulsion.

I'd change the doors if you want a change of colour, however I think your finish is very nice as is.

a lot of places now do kitchen door vinyl wrapping to any colour and either matt or gloss. Prices are normally per door. They come and take doors and return or do it onsite.

Worth investigation?

There is a Facebook group called DIY on a budget where a lot of people have done this so looks of tips and tricks and also advice on what paints etc to use maybe worth a look
