ok, so I got a super lanboy of a friend I quite like the case but dont like silver looks slightly tacky, what I want to do is paint it black so does anyone have any tips on painting a pc case just dont want to mess it up and have it looking really shoddy :p #
Thanks :)

to be honest mate its pretty hard to get decent results out of off the shelf stuff.
when i paint cases i do it the same way you would have your car resprayed. 2 pack paints and 2pack laqueres.
maybe pop to a local body shop and ask them.

the biggest problem you will have is the surface of the paint feeling sticky even weeks after the spray job, un even finishes etc
it CAN be doen but it takes a lot of time and patience.

if your gonna do it invest in :
grey scotchbrite pads
a tack cloth
some iso-proponol alcohol
decent masking tape
and through experience HALFORDS car paints seem to be the best out of the tin.

http://guides.pimprig.com/pimprig_paintshop/painting_a_computer_case_:_the_basics.php?page=2 that gives you some good advice ( taken fromt he sticky) just im not going to coment on the flames :P lol

I used the halfords stuff on my mouse, very tough finish but remember to use clear laquer. I put about 6 layers of it on... maybe overkill but it looks very reflective and doesnt chip (I have dropped it a few times :/)

Not if you use acrylic based car body panel spray such as the Halfords range, these paints are touch dry in around 15 mins, I'm sure Raikiri back me up on this. Its also fairly easy to achieve a decent finish, it might have come more easy to me from using spray guns on furniture though. The trick is to use robotic like movements and not to stop in one spot or you will get an uneven finish and maybe even runs  . Lay the piece flat and keep the can the same distance from the piece the whole time. Rub in between coats with some 2000 grit wet and dry, just to remove any high spots that may have formed, and build the finish up in fine coats. Ive painted a few things now including a couple of cases using spray cans from Halfords and have always had excellent results.

I would leave it about 20 minutes between coats (10 for the primer) and then leave for an hour after the last coat of clear laquer before touching it. Although it is touch dry after 20 mins I wouldnt risk it :p

You will want two coats of primer, 3-4 of the your main colour and 3-4 of clear laquer. You can also use high grit sand paper (use wet and dry) to lightly rub the paint down after each layer in order to get a smoother finish.

Although RB Customs knows more than me (about air brushing at least, and probably most other types of painting so take his advice :p)

I have a fair bit of experience of painting to but not done much air brushing, although i would love to have a go some time. All the advice here will get good results.
