We're looking at redocorating our new house and have had bits of the lounge recently changed. Artex removed, dado rail etc removed etc.

No we've got a smooth ceiling and smoother walls we're looking at painting at some point.

However my question is -

Currently the exisiting plaster board has a poor quality paint on it and in some areas the paper had peeled away from where the dado rail was. These loose bits were trimmed off by a plaster etc. and filled in when he filled in the holes from the dado rail etc. The plastered areas have since been sanded down with no real issues.

Can we paint straight on top or is there more work we need to do? I've heard people mentioning doing a mist coat, which is fine, but just wary of missing something out.

i'd personally plaster (skim) your walls rather than paint the plasterboard as americans do,especially with the plasterboard paper starting to peel...much better finish overall

That'll be expensive then.. Joy...

Shouldnt be that expensive, get a decent plasterer, someone thats been recommended but your looking at about £180 for the whole room.

I know a few people that have had the room and ceiling plastered lately and they have all paid around the £200 mark.

Not bad price.

Just proves that a so called mate has stitched me for a lot more than that.

Things are going from bad to worse with the friendship and I think he's just using me for a cash cow.. So I'm contemplating stiching him up with the tax man.

Thing I've learn't - never get friends to do a paid job
