Just bought DOA4 and noticed i had to switch my tv mode to PAL 60 in order for me to play. If i leave it at this setting will my other games be affected?

Also: where do i find the OCuK members market ????

thx

PAL60 is better anyway. If possible you'd probably want to run all your games in it.

That's the truth, and has been since the Snes and Megadrive games. Remember the PAL version of Streetfighter II on the Snes? Boy was that slow. Why? 50 frames a second, not 60. A 16.5% difference.

Yeah the problem is developers often don't alter the game mechanics to compensate for the different framerate, since it's usually used for timing. Although I'm not sure that's the case with games these days. Even so it'll run smoother in pal60.

True most of the time, but some console games actually run smoother at PAL50, because it can maintain a constant 50fps easier than it can 60, so instead of staying at a smooth 50 it fluctuates between 30 and 60. There are a few games on the Xbox (1) like this that I've come across.

In fact, for people who are having framerate issues on their xbox360 while running at pal60, you might find it improves if you run at pal50 :)

Good point. Also I remember reading there was another difference between Pal50 and 60. I think it was pal60 does colour the same way as NTSC which is technically inferior to pal50. Not sure about that though.

edit- I got that wrong. PAL in fact refers to the colouring method. PAL60 uses fewer scan lines like NTSC does.

You wont get the settings if you are using HD, however, you can still switch to PAL60 by using something like the composite lead or a scart connecion and changing it in the system blade (or flick the switch on the HD component lead to SD). Then all you have to do is flick back to your normal HD settings.

This is needed for stuff like the Outfit Demo, which wouldnt run unless you were using PAL60, even if you were on a component/VGA connection.

Surely if you're running it in HD you don't have to worry about PAL settings? I thought HD was a completely different (and superior) standard.

Yeah, shouldnt affect it but some games have proved to be funny about the console not being set to PAL60 for SD, even if you run a HD setting!

You normally don't, i.e. Oblivion and Dead or Alive 4. However, you do need to on Top Spin 2.
