I'm running Vista 64bit Home Premium and a 512MB Palit 8800GT with 1x DVI and 1x HDMI.

Both my screens are VGA, so I purchased a HDMI to DVI and then used a DVI to VGA adapter. The furthest I have managed to get is Vista acknowledging that the 2nd monitor is connected but it refuses to display anything on it. Am I trying to do the impossible here?

I've tried various display drivers and have got to the point where the NVIDIA Control panel won't install any more, so I have no idea what I've done now.

Any suggestions / thoughts?

To getting your drivers working right uninstall reboot into safe mode run driver cleaner to remove any Nvida drivers left over.Reboot install drivers you want control panel should work after that. And at a guess think it might have something to do with all the adapters your having to use.May be get a HDMI TO VGA try that instead of the 2?.That would mean a HDMI to VGA Component Converter or something like it.Not 100% sure but think hdmi to vga wont work unless you use a Component Converter .

Is there such a thing as HDMI to VGA? When I was looking for a way to connect the screen I couldn't find one. Just about to try driver cleaner..

HDMI to VGA Component Converter would cost some seen a few about. Its a small box around £70 to £150 just cant be done i think any other way.DVI can carry both analog and digital and i think HDMI can only carry digital.Someone might come up with a new take but thats how it is as far as i know.Like i said i am not 100% sure.

Driver cleaner worked a treat, thanks for that. I emailed Palit telling them what I'm trying to do and with what adapters and they've replied with:

"This issue is normally caused by not sending the correct resolution and/or refresh rate to the HDMI monitor. Check your settings in NV Control panel to make sure your output matches what your monitor needs."

I've changed every setting I can find but still not having any joy.
