Just got a Palit GTX 970 in today and not only does it coil whine, which is audible not loud but audible, but the right fan is making a noise as if it's got dust in the brushes. It's expensive to return it :( OCUK should get someone to pick it up, sigh

It also only clocks to 1445 core any higher and it throttles back

Coil isn't that bad tbh, had worse :p

I'll take the card out again and take a look at the fan, i'd rather exhaust all measures before return. I think I've got till Monday as it's 30day?

Man it is all over the internet... all 970s have coil whine, if you get one that doesn't it is just a matter of luck...

I personally waiting to get more feedback from the OCUK in the meantime I bought a Playstation 4 as it doesn't whine at least lol

If we have whine today in 2014 is due to people being to geek and accept card with poor components unfortunately for too many years...

For what it's worth I have the same card and haven't noticed any whine, my fan is fine also.

You can use Parcel2Go and use the code "FIRSTFREE" to get cheap shipping if you decide to return it ;)

If it's from OcUK you need to contact them within 28 days if you want your problem to be dealt with as refund/replace rather than repair/replace.

28 Days / Acceptance Period
You are entitled to reject goods if they are faulty (do not match the description, are not of satisfactory quality, or are not fit for purpose). You have up to 28 days to check the goods and contact us if there is a fault. You can decide to claim a full refund or request a repair/replacement.

If you are returning for a refund, please include all packaging, cables, manuals, drivers and protective bags. Accessories and promotional items are part of the order and must be returned to ensure a full refund is given. Free games codes should be unused and still hidden.

After 28 Days / Warranty Period
Sometimes goods may become faulty after the acceptance period has expired but within the warranty period. Depending on the product, you will receive either a replacement or your product will be repaired.

For the fastest turnaround, we recommend using a manufacturer's direct warranty service. Please check the table below to see which manufacturers offer this service.

If a direct service is not available or you would prefer Overclockers UK to handle your return, then we encourage you to contact us. We will send your goods for repair or replacement to the manufacturer under warranty.

Please note that turnaround times vary and Overclockers UK will endeavour to return the items in the speediest manner possible at the time.

Goods returned for repair or replacement should be sent without any accessories as we cannot guarantee that they will remain present with the original item throughout the whole return procedure.

If we are unable to return the items to you within the 28 day allocated window, we will give you the option of a refund. Depending on the age of the items, the refund may include a deduction for the length of time you have used them (known as rescission).

That is exactly why the cards have whine - people don't return them so the manufacturers keep using cheap components. The OCUK 970s apparently don't have whine because Gibbo used very specific parts to target that.

True but my major issue isn't the whine I could live with that just fine :(

You shouldn't live with something that is a defect... If I sell you a car with 3 wheels would you live with that? You can still somehow drive it but it is not what you pay for...

As mentioned Gibo and the OCUK team made this reference 970 with 980 PCB (which is Nvidia spec, only 970 are sold without Nvidia specs), I am personally waiting to see more feedback.

Fun enough I bought a PS4 last Friday and the internal PSU had whine :D but I returned it and got one that is nice an quiet...

Trust, just saying I could live with it because it wasn't that bad. However I know there are cards that whine like a mofo and that is unacceptable :(

Yep my MSI 970 was ridiculously loud... I mean loud enough to wake up people!

I then got a Gigabyte from another store and it didn't whine but it made the same noise as yours which is is unacceptable too so I just returned it as unwanted and by the law no question can be asked (of course unless you send it back with missing items).

Any person keeping these type of cards just make PC Gamers less and less as people always associate problems with PC Gaming compared with Console (somehow this was true except this gen of console as they have plenty of issues).

These cards are sold as cost saving and quiet so they should not make more noises than a washing machine, end of.
