Hello,

I got one of the palit GTX970's at Christmas. And After using it with the DVI-VGA convertor I'm getting interference on the monitor.

I suspect it's the location of the VRM on those cards, And the fact the display signal must have to go past the VRM to get to the monitor interconnects.

I plan on picking up a Mini DP - HDMI convertor to stop the issue but does it need to be active or will any old convertor work with these cards? I know AMD cards can be a little picky.

When you say the DVI out is fine are you running the DVI as a digital cable or as an analogue one. Digital will have no interference. Analogue is prone to it.

The output looks like this video.

The monitors are already of separate sockets so the solution in the video is not the solution I need.

It's also happening on 2 machines. We got 2 cards at Christmas, 1 for my pc and one for the sons.

My machine is.

i5 2500K @ 4.8Ghz on EKWB HF240 loop
Palit GTX970
MSI P67 GD-45
16Gb Corsair ddr3 1600.
Samsung 840 250GB
3x 2tb spinners
FSP 800W

The sons machine

1055T
AM3+ Asus
Palit GTX970
8GB corsair ddr3 1600mhz
Samsung 840 250GB
1x 2tb spinner
Seasonic 800W

Surely your card already has HDMI out?

You would think, but the wife picked up the cards as a suprise. The cards have mini HDMI, 3x mini DP, and Dsub outputs.

So I can either get a mini HDMI> HDMI, Or Mini DP>HDMI.

But since there is only 1 mini HDMI slot it would be just as easy to pick up a few convertors. Chances are my next GPU will have standard HDMI outputs so keeping the cables as standard HDMI makes some sense to me.

I do have a Dsub to Dsub cable and one of my montors can use it, problem been it's my smaller 24" monitor and the cable is a DVI-a. So it would still need a cable to resolve the flickering. Plus that monitor already has a DVI-i>HDMI cable, so there is little point in replacing that when I can just order an adapter (provided it works).

The other monitor I have only has HDMI and VGA. It's a nice monitor tho so I have no plans to change it. 27" LG IPS, LG factory panel not a subcontracted one.

You could get 2 mini HDMI to HDMI and 2 HDMI to HDMI cables for less than one Mini display port to HDMI adapters. You can even get DVI to HDMI cables that work perfectly fine and I doubt you next card will not have DVI.

2 mini HDMI to HDMI and 2 HDMI to HDMI cables

I might have just thought of another solution :D

The DVI-i> HDMI cable in reverse may work. And then I would need a mini HDMI>Dsub for the other monitor...

Oh the joys of cable management.!

Does you other monitor not have any digital inputs

The 24" one that I use as a photoshop slave only has the Dsub. It's digital.

The main monitor has the HDMI only.

None of my monitors have mini ports at all.

The DVI-i>Hdmi cable is working on the main monitor for the minute. And it's solved the banding issue. It doesn't solve me getting the second monitor working and I need that one to be able to keep my workflow up (wedding photographer).

If I can get a mini HDMI>dsub then I'll be sorted.

Not sure what the son needs. His monitors are older than mine, so I think He's only going to have Dsubs and VGA. I'll look into it in a bit.

I love the fact no one has answered the question that I asked about weather or not those adapters will work :D I'm not wanting to do this the hard way. I was just going to pick up as many adapters as I need and continue running on my old cables if they work. At the very worst I was expecting to have to pick up a couple more HDMI>DVI-i cables to fill any gaps with connections. I'm not adverse to spending money if it works. I just know that AMD cards have a few faults and need active adapters... I have one for my old card HD6970. It is however a full sized DP adapter and no use here. Added to that I want to do it with as few adapters as possible. So a single mini DP>full HDMI covers pretty much all of my bases.
