Palit Sonic OC GTX 580 issues

There's a couple of Sonics in the lower left side of the picture. I've got an empty box in the cupboard now wondering whether to take the card out of the PC, put it in the box and send it back to OC. It crashes after playing Crisis Warhead or F1 2010 after about 10minutes however if I reduce the core frequency to 800 it runs everything flawlessly. I'm using MSI Afterburner and have it set to load the new profile with the 800 core freq automatically when Windows starts so I don't forget or otherwise have to do anything else. At the moment therefore, everything is stable although the card is only slightly overclocked and the temps never seem to go over 75 C. I'm wondering if it would be worth sending it back in view of having to wait for a different card which may be no better than the one I've got, ie if I overclocked it to 835 without increasing the Vcore it would probably crash too. The only thing tempting me to return it is the thought of trying to sell it in a couple of years and disclosing that it was a bit dodgy at it's factory clockspeed. I'd likely get very little for it. Decisions, decisions

As I've mentioned somewhere or other I downclocked the card to stock speeds , well 782 on the GPU and that was all. It seemed fine but then I tried the Tropics Demo after seeing some possibly flickering textures in COD Blackops. It got to the dark hut scene and my system locked. Sending the card back tomorrow for credit. I may re-order a different 580 card or hang on for the AMD release.

Sonic fail.

I have never seen such a poor launch of a high end £400 GFX card.
The card itself is good but the launch partners their bundles and their stability has been abysmal.
Stay clear of palit / kfa2 / inno3d / pov ( poor warranty / poor bundle / mostly poor overclocks / unstable )

Gigabyte / msi / evga / asus only.
No wonder XFX left nvidia.

Just incase anyone was not aware the palit sonic was recalled. Sent back to the company I bought from the next day when found out. If u have one & having issues contact ocuk (if bought here obviously).

I have a Pov and while i agree with you that the box is a poor bundle,i disagree with everything else you have said, well at least with my card anyway.
