I am about to upgrade towards the end of this week ( watercooled 780 lightning ), after going through every single option from 970 tri sli - 980 sli and looking/reading every review and benchmark I think I am going to opt for the Titan z, for many reasons but the main being the limited vram on the 980/970 currently and in light of the initial next gen based games requirements and the fact I really don't wish to change my whole set up based on a Z87 gene regards the pcie spacing.

So my question to you guys in the know with experience would be regards the quality of the Palit brand currently, as this model is at a decent price bracket, including rma/warranty.

Am I right in assuming that as the gpu is reference board they are all exactly the same regardless of brand? so paying the premium or not to say the Evga model would only concern the warranty quality?.

Thanks in advance

I can only go by my own experience, My gtx 580 was a Palit and it was good in build quality and reliability. My friend has the Palit gtx 780 ti and meant to be one of the better ones.

Reference cards are fine with tight PCIe spacing, it's all the custom open air coolers that aren't.

Thanks for the replies. Already decided I do not want the 4gb cards, willing to sacrifice some speed versus 980sli for the 6gb buffer and single slot solution. I play on 1440p so it will give me some room to see how and what develops in the new games and 4k market throughout the next year at which point if I decide to upgrade to that platform I will pass the Z down through the family.

So I just wish to know if the Palit is a good choice in terms of brand or should I stump the extra for another brand.

Thanks

If its a reference, isn't it actually made by nvidia and then passed on to the manufacturers? So theoretically theres no difference between any of them?

Yes that is my understanding, so the premium comes down to the warranty or rma service quality and have zero experience with Palit. Hence asking here.

Thanks

I can certainly understand wanting to have more than 4GB.

I'm 99% sure all Titan Zs are reference cards made by a single factory. OCUK did do a £799.99 offer on Titan Z a while back so it may be worth seeing if they do something similar again.

I'd strongly consider two Titan Blacks instead as it should be faster and run cooler and quieter, but that might well be more expensive.

I'm not sure if going for the Titan Z is a wise choice...performance wise, I think they are only roughly as fast as 75% of SLI GTX780's performance?

Wouldn't it be better for you to wait for the Titan 2 rather than going down the Titan Z path?

I love my card as its a single slot solution. Due to poor airflow and SLI MB layout SLI is not really an option. I would have to spend a lot on new MB and probably case and fans as well. When I upgrade my rig (next Xmas ) Ill use the components to make a M ATX Box so the single slot will serve it well.

Oh its easy to overlock the Titan Z if you want more speed out of it but at the expense of sound ofc.

But of course you can wait for the titan 2 - all depends what you want. Bear in mind when the Titan 2 is out there will ALWAYS be something faster in the wings. Its just the nature of the game.

One of the biggest advantage of Titan 2 would probably be much lower power-consumption, close performance to the Titan Z (hopefully), and most importantly it is a single GPU, so it doesn't require SLI to scale well to get the performance...there are always games out there that simply suck at supporting multi-GPUs.

Is there any source for the imminent release of titan 2? I have read some articles regards it and the 990 I think but nothing concrete. Not sure I want to wait much longer, already done the waiting on my single 780 lightning and resisted the ti temptation, the money is secured this week for my upgrade and the itch needs scratching.

Is titan z only 75% of 780sli? I need to do some game bench research.

Thanks for the input

Edit - from these benches@1440 (my res) it beats out 780sli and is not far off 780tisli

Should more than suffice for the next year until full upgrade to 4k
