I think the 570 was pushing it in the value stakes - it probably isn't £70 better than the GTX480. The 580 really is pushing it, it definately isnt £170 better than the 480 or even £100 better than the 570, IMHO :)
 
My rooms ambient is pretty hot @ 26c, card is idling around 40c and max's out at about 85c in games that push GPU usage to 98/99%

My temps are quite different. It idles at 60-65c but never goes above 78-79c under full load. Played Crysis last night for 15 minutes, peak temperature 79c.
 
Good you followed me with the 570 option in the end ;-) However, although I payed more for my Gainward 570 Phantom, it does 850 Mhz at stock voltages and max temps are 62 C. It is silent when not being pushed. I paid £305 for it.

I've not tried more than 810mhz core yet, mostly because I've got no idea how high I should go before I start touching voltage, and even if I should start touching voltage.
