Palit

I had a bad experience with Asus service when they sold them dodgy sckt 939 mobo's with dodgy fans. Never again. I also had an Asus 6800Gt at the same time that was a pap overclocker.
Enjoying Gigabyte ever since.

Really? Not what I've been hearing recently. My last motherboard was an Asus that went wrong, and whilst the retailer ended up dealing with the RAM, I heard a lot of stories of other Asus customers having problems. And there a post on here not long back showing a lot of issues with the Asus RMA.

Maybe I'm a bit off-based with this, and it's only based on what I've heard second-hand.

I hate palit...

they put a sticker for warranty over the screws on the back so if you replace the TIM your warranty is void..

If you want to do taht dont buy palit..

If that doesnt bother you.. Good as anyone.

Those stickers are worthless. I'm guessing you've never used a heat gun before. :D

Palit GTX 460 are non-reference, none of the reference models I know of has a VRM sink on them except for the EVGA ***(for the win). Just that Palit sent 460 cards to reviewers that had VRM sink on them, which is very sly. Palit's premium brand Gainward however does have VRM sink on them.

The Gainwards were also missing the VRM sinks. I've got two of them. The card itself is fine, but the cooler shroud & fan are cheap, flimsy and noisy; and no VRM sinks.

Gainward/Palit reference cards are no different from anyone else's, but i'd avoid their custom designs.

Reference cards = :)
Custom cards = :(

Sorry to re-awaken this thread, but does anyone know if the Palit GTX 570 SONIC or GTX 570 SONIC Platinum are worth getting over a normal GTX 570?

I think they're both pre-overclocked (although not by much in the SONIC's case) and with custom coolers. Will they clock any higher than reference cards?

I'm considering selling my unused GTX 570 and getting a couple of either for SLI, just not sure if they're worth the slightly extra money (~£270 and £280 respectively)?

Cheers.

To the OP - i see your 280 is for sale in the MM and your signature now says you have a 570.

What do you think of the 570, which one did you get and is it lovely and quiet as I am still dithering over which card to get

I picked up an EVGA 570, it's completely silent at idle (Infact I've actually turned the fan up a tad to benefit from lower temps!) and it's not instrusive at all when gaming. I've now got a custom fan profile set up, it's running at 810Mhz Core/2000Mhz memory, never goes above 78c under load and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with it.

At stock it was barely any quicker than the 480, so in reality the 480 is clearly a better value for money card. I don't think I've got a particularly good value option at all, but I'm now 100% satisfied which I wasn't before, so all is well that ends well :)

Really glad that you have found something that you are happy with :)

Did you get one of the standard EVGA 570s or one of their 'superclocked' versions?

Thank you for your comments on your new card :-)

Always good to hear that someone else who is sensitive to noise is happy with a product, so I am very tempted to invest in one of these, although the MSI 580 on the this week only deal is supposed to be very quiet too, but that's another £100.

Decisions decisions.....

I think the 570 was pushing it in the value stakes - it probably isn't £70 better than the GTX480. The 580 really is pushing it, it definately isnt £170 better than the 480 or even £100 better than the 570, IMHO :)

Just picked up a 2nd hand but minimum used 580gtx for £300 and the noise is very, very similar to me to the 5870 reference fan i had a year or so ago. Ie near silent at idle and while you can hear it under load..its not an intrusive sound like the dreaded old single fan 8800gt's or worse still, the 470/480's with stock coolers.

It just sounds like, well, air blowing? rather than whiiiiine.

V pleased overall.

Performance difference feels biblical coming from a 460gtx heavily clocked.

Can't believe you spent the extra on the 570 you woman! Don't really notice the noise of the fan once i'm gaming on the 480 because the sound drowns it out haha

Fussy person here happy with reference GTX 570,

I ditched my old GTX 560Ti with twin fan as it was very loud, after having a bit of play I think that the 570 is a much better card imo and well worth the extra outlay if your looking for a quieter high end card.

At full load the fan is very tolerable, and pretty much silent @ idle.

My rooms ambient is pretty hot @ 26c, card is idling around 40c and max's out at about 85c in games that push GPU usage to 98/99%

Overall very happy.

I currently have a PALIT GTX 580. I have had no issues with it and have clocked it to 900c 1800s. Really good quiet card, with good temps, the reason i went for it, was because, i have previously used a GTX 275 and a 9800GTX+ also both were very realiable cards.

The GTX 275 is still plodding along in my sons E8400 pc :)

My temps are quite different. It idles at 60-65c but never goes above 78-79c under full load. Played Crysis last night for 15 minutes, peak temperature 79c.
