Panasonic has expanded its range of high-end compact snappers with the Panasonic Lumix LX7 officially unveiled ahead of release later this year.

Partnering with luxury camera specialist Leica to bring impressive optics to the pocketable camera, the Panasonic Lumix LX7 is to land in black and white colour forms with an ergonomic grip offering a more comfortable fit in the hand than past models.

Panasonic Lumix LX7 Features

Narrowing the gap in quality between compact snappers and dedicated DSLR offerings, the Panasonic Lumix LX7 is to see an impressive 10.1-megpiaxel high-sensitivity MOS Sensor paired with an integrated Leica DC Vario-Summilux f/1.4-2.3 lens for high-end results.

Far more than a simple point-and-shoot camera, the LX7 is to pair impressive stills abilities with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities with the 24mm ultra wide-angle lens allowing for an expansive capturing range.

Ensuring that the snapper’s inbuilt stills and video playback options offer up an accurate representation of the compact’s capabilities, Panasonic has added a 3-inch LCD display to the device’s rear with an impressive 920k-dot resolution.

Panasonic Lumix LX7 Release Date

Whilst Panasonic has yet to offer up any confirmed Panasonic Lumix LX7 pricing or precise release date details, it is expected the premium compact will touch down this September.

Looks like a pretty awesome camera to be honest, and I'm looking forward to the release! :)

I've had the LX-5 for a while now. It's a good little camera and love the 24mm wide end but it's major flaw in my opinion is that it's a compact camera sensor in a body that isn't particularly pocketable. For the size (and price) the micro four thirds cameras look like a better option.

Looks pretty interesting, especially the f1.8-2.3 lense. I'm looking to upgrade my XZ-1 to either a Samsung EX2F, LX7 or the XZ-1 successor.

sorry to bump but the missus is looking at this camera.

does the lack of high levels of zoom really limit the camera in any way or is it still workable? what are its contemporaries to compare it to?

any help would be appreciated

Its main competitor is the Sony RX100, which has a worse lens and ergonomics but a bigger, better sensor.

thanks 42zx, interesting to know.

so far we are looking at this or the fz150 bridge. it seems a trade of the zoom and a viewport over the lens and the sensor of the lx7

is there a middle ground or will a bullet have to be bitten?

she isn't interested in raw, it wont be used for post processing just a good quality snapper and research for her drawing so macro capability, good lens and an average zoom. no need for 32x or something.

no need for 32x or something.

don't look for the 32x zoom number, it is meaningless.

If the lens is 800mm prime, it is a 1x zoom.

If a lens is 8-15mm wide angle zoom, it is a 2x zoom.

Which one have more reach?

Look at the focal length (or equivalent), not the 32x zoom number on the box.
