Panasonic Lumix DMC-F28 - repair or replace?!

Hi everyone

I am hoping for some advice for a friend. She has a Panasonic Lumix DMC-F28 with Leica lens. She is a keen mountaineer and dropped the camera after slipping on ice. The lens was badly damaged. She's had it in a camera repair shop for about 6 months. The man in there reckons she might be able to replace the lens for about £100 (but he's not sure, it could be more...). She paid about £250 for the camera and really liked features like the 12x optical zoom (great for when she's on the mountains).

The question - is it worth holding out for a possible repair OR should she give up and get a new camera? If so, any recommendations?

Thanks :)

I take it that you mean FZ28? As for the price of repair to put it in contrast you can buy the newer FZ38 version for £218 at some places now. Also they seem to update this line of bridge cameras around this time of the year so it may even drop a little more in the next month.

Rumour has it that the next one will be announced in a week or so with availability in the coming months. Means the FZ38 should come down in price as it is at the moment. Seems to be coming down in price at a lot of places and is no longer available to "reserve at store" at places that do that.

Either that, or just pick up a FZ28 again as I'm sure they are even cheaper if you can find one. The purple shirt guys have it new for £99 but good luck finding one in the shop!
