Hi Guys,

I've had my eye on the Pansonic Lumix range (DMC-TZx) for a while now. Nice compact camera, and it has 10x optical zoom.

Are they any good though from your guys opinions? Obviously the above features are nice, but not if it doesn't actually take photos very well! ;)

I'm not fussed about the MP - or should I be? I'm looking at holiday snaps, days out etc kind of camera to share photos with friends on my website.. but still scope on it to "play" and see what I can do with it. If you get my drift..

They have the Pansonic Lumx DMC-TZ1 up to DMC-TZ5 currently. I'm not sure which to go for. I.e. spend less money and get less megapixels as I don't think I need it - or am I wrong? Also, is there any other difference in the different models except the MP?

I was going to wait to buy (or request for my birthday) but I'm going to Paris in a month or so. I could borrow a digital SLR off a friend, but.. it's big!!

Thanks guys, any help appreciated :)

MP differences will limit you to how big you can print without distortion. Im not 100% on this but im sure the range you have pointed out will use the same design of sensors and so the image quality should be alomsot on a par with each of the cameras in that range.

I have heard good things about the lumix - a good idea would be for you to go instore and make sure its comfortable in your hand and take a few sample pics and see if the image quality is good - maybe take your own memory card to look at the shots at home.

Don't have one myself, but my mum has a Lumix LX-1, which is a very nice camera with fantastic IQ. I'd imagine other Lumix cameras of the same price range would be just as good. Has nice wide angle capabilities too :)

I'd only ever look at printing at A4 at max, and probably very rarely! Would just be nice to know it could if I wanted it to. Main medium is the web though, to share.

As far as I know, there are no other compact digital cameras with 10x optical zoom?

I have a panasonic lumix tz3 to compliment my dSLR kit when i cba to lug it around :p

It's a VERY good camera, i did a fair amount of research before buying it and spent hours and hours playing with it (i'm the manager of a camera shop so when we're quiet i can play with cameras for hours on end :p)......unless you can stretch to the G9 they're the best all rounders on the market. VERY good colour reproduction, it's the only compact that we sell that actually gets our counter to be purple (most see it as blue, INCLUDING the g9). Good lens, easy to use, and cheap. Good buy :)

TZ5 seems to be a little bit nicer, but not noticeably.

Tom.
