I'm in the market for a new TV.. It will mostly be used for Sky, HD channels, watching dvd's and playing Xbox.

I have a budget of around £700 - £800 at most.. I've noticed people giving the TXP42X10b rave reviews, just wanted to know if the 50" is just as good or something I should steer clear of..

If not I'm thinking of going for the TX-P42G10.

Thanks

The easiest way to explain it, the G10 is what the X10 was a few years ago in comparing Panasonic's range of models.

The G10 is a few off Panasonic current flagship sets.
When the X10 was launched it was a few models off the (then) Panasonic flagship.

The X10 is a very good set, the G10 has taken what the X10 did well and improved upon it as well as introducing new technology like Panasonics "infinite" black levels and their new NEO PDP technology.

The X10 can be had for around £500 now as it's a few years old, the G10 can be had for around £750 shopping around.

The X10 is a good set, but if your budget fits the G10 better :)

Thanks for the reply.. Appreciated.

However the main question I was hoping someone could answer was, is the 50" X10 as good a telly as the 42" version?

If so, I will go for that.. If not, I will probably, go for the 42" G10 instead.

have a look at the 50ps3000 by LG. the picture quality is about 90% of the g10 and its £400 cheaper.

I spent a long time looking at both and in the end, imho, the LG is the best bang for buck on the market. The PS 3000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 all have the same panels, so it has the same panel as the more expensive PS8000 with slightly less picture calibration controls in the service menu.

I've never even gave LG a second thought before..... But after your recommendation and having a look at some of the reviews online, I think the 50PS3000 might be the TV to go for. I'm going to see if a certain department store will do a price match, so I get it for £689 with 5 yr warranty..

Cheers guys, much appreciated.

All plasmas in this price range have some image retention. The newer LGs have significantly reduced this compared to their previous ranges.

If utter filth is careful with settings and gaming periods in the first weeks of ownership, as with any plasma really, he won't have any major problems.

Never had a plasma before, what should I do or not do to avoid image retention?? Will this be for the first few weeks or will it be a problem throughout the life of the TV?

I've got the 37"X10b Panny and with regards image retention I've never had any trouble. I play a lot of games on it also and had no issues apart from one occasion when drunk playing Resistance 2 for 3 hours splitscreen, (black bars on left and right) I noticed retention after playing.

Putting sky on for 2 mins soon sorted it out though, just be careful for the first couple of weeks with a plasma in general regardless of make.
