Panasonic ub820 vs ub9000

I started buying BDs and now 4k videos about a year ago.
The core reason being the fragmentation of the streaming market.
A few years ago, it was Netflix. Now we have lots of competition, and if you're looking to watch something specific, you have to google it to find out where to stream it from. That's not only a pain, but also means extra subscription costs.
For me, I'd rather spend the cash on physical media, that I can happily watch when I fancy, and doesn't suffer from network streaming restrictions to it's audio quality.

That's helped by being able to buy used disks, often at serious discount.

The used disc situation is good, £1 Blu-Rays in CEX! Also had someone on a local Facebook group asking how to get rid of about 300 DVDs, so I was able to help them out for no charge, had about half of them, but still some decent titles in there (though I do now own a Mrs Brown's Boys boxset).

I made a point of ditching streaming nearly two years ago and focusing on physical and it's working for me!

Hope so! Discs are still very popular, but as you say it’s the players being produced that has declined.
Maybe it will be a more niche area in the future but I don’t think physical media in general is going anywhere any time soon.

Recently got Edward Scissorhands 4k Steelbook from Amazon, I tend to use HMV more for discs though, don’t want them disappearing! just happened to have a gift certificate to use. Have a few more on order from Rarewaves as well, there is quite a few online places for discs, but HMV is king for me, be it online or from the highstreet shop.

Hopefully so. It's definately a niche thing as not a lot of people care about audio and are happy with streaming on netflix and watching through tv speakers. I have converted a few people though after they've heard my setup in action .

Congrats on the fb find, but please accept my sincere condolences on the Mrs Brown's Boys boxset. You've only just missed bonfire night too...! ;)

Question, is it possible to select tv led dolby vision on the 820?

On my oppo203 I can select tv led or player led dolby vision, and I think in most cases tv led is the better choice with high end tvs.

I cant find the setting on the Panasonic 820 though.

Just doing the upgrade now , had my 820 for 5 years now and lately ive just noticed it being a touch noisy during quite scenes which has started to annoy me a little... ub9000 has dropped down to £800 and i had a £300 JL voucher from when I purchased my G5 earlier this year, 820 sold for £250 meaning I just needed to put £250 cash towards the ub9000 :D

It was added in the last firmware.

I’m on latest firmware, and I didn’t get that option last I checked, regardless I think DV is sent TV led anyway.

It used to be TV led only, then they released a firmware that was player led and then people complained and they added the option to choose.

I believe it depends on the brand of TV connected, I definitely see that option on my LG G3

Both the 820 and 9000 offer DV via TV or player and you select it after setting DV to on in the settings ... will then get a option for mode 1 TV led or mode 2 Player led . I just came across it while settings up the 9000 and set it to Mode 1 ... when I got the 820 5 years ago I don't remember seeing that option.
