Hi all,

Thought I would come on here to pimp my sisters new band Pandora, they've just sorted out a demo CD and have a few gigs coming up (I don't have any details of those except for a charity gig with the feeling and sophie ellis bextor)

They're called Pandora (don't tell me there's already a eurodance singer going under that name, they already know ) and it's my sister on vocals, her boyfriend on guitars and two of their friends on drums and bass.

divine` has kindly allowed me to host their demo on his webspace and has made up the above page for it.

They're trying to get as much publicity/exposure as possible and are going to be getting a website & myspace made for them soon (any website designers want to help me out?)

Take a listen and give me as much feedback as you like
Negative feedback is welcomed as long as it's constructive and not just "It's crap" and obviously positive feedback is welcomed too

Cheers all

Sister, y'say? ;) :p

Had a listen to the first couple of tracks and they're pretty good. I can't help thinking the guitars are a bit too quiet/vocals are too loud, but that's probably just my crappy hearing!

I'm totally into girl-fronted rock bands right now, so this is just the job. As far as pimping goes, get them to set up a last.fm page

Not really my sort of thing but it isn't bad. Her voice is pretty good (pics please :p)

Judging by Last.FM there are quite a few artists called Pandora.

Been listening to this over the last few days, not what I'm normally in to but its certainly growing on me, something about it that sounds very familiar which isn't really a bad thing.

Got the demo a few days ago, good friends with their drummer, worked with him for a few years.

AFAIK they're playing a few gigs in April, 14th somewhere in Guildford and 22nd in Kingston possibly, can't remember exactly, but I'll hopefully be there for support!

Haha sure is!

I'm more than likely wrong, they're just dates I've got noted down in my phone from the last few weeks!

But yeah, really am enjoying it. CD's welded into my car stereo and am in the process of sticking on the tracks on my iPod right now.

Although I am disappointed about the re-naming of the "Meat Song" :p

Aye, favourite song is probably Only for You.

And tell your sister she has a great voice, sounds very effortless. Not that it'll mean much coming from some random on t'internet. :p

It's really good, miles ahead of anything I could ever dream of doing. Your sister has a good voice, sometimes a bit quiet but that's nothing a good master can't fix. If that was done in one take, very impressive :)

I’ve been listening to these tracks for the last couple of hours and to be absolutely honest with you its well good enough quality for demo purposes.

If I was to nit pick though I would try sort out the positioning in the stereo picture a little better creating a little more space, feels a little cramped. These songs feel like they should be much bigger. I would also have a good look at certain frequency areas especially where sibilance lives, cymbals/hats, and also she needs a little air, after sibilance, since some of her breathy qualities in the vocal are getting a little lost in the mix, a touch of notching around 6-10k for cymbals hats and a little lift for air around, 5k, 10-15k for vocals, not too much mind, might help bring her vocal to life a little more.

I might possibly add some ducking (side chaining) with Bass and BDrum to tighten up that engine room and help the BDrum punch through the mix, where it’s a little thin, at decreased volumes. Snare sounds dynamite though.

The sections of the track ‘Only for You’, a great song by the way, where they go for the megaphone/telephone/Am radio voice effect needs both its levels and frequencies tweaked a little bringing it closer to the level of the chorus where the song gets big, without loosing the vibe they are aiming for. I say that because remember lead vocal is supposed to do precisely that, ‘Lead’ not follow.

A little technique I’ve seen used is to make a composite duplicate of the dry track, really crush the vocal with the effect on the new track then blend both together in the mix and if its on a DAW automate it. Something else that might help loose slight nasal tones is to cut in the eq around the 1k mark and can achieve some good results although it might be that the mic position wasn’t quite right and picked up some tones in the nasal cavity.

As I said though I’m really just nit picking, it’s a demo after all. I don’t hear anything of major concern. The Vocal level, in contrast to everything else, is pretty decent I like the way her vocal floats over the instrumentation, especially in ‘Break Me’. If anything some of the instrumentation is just a shade loud in parts I put that down to patching though, lack of control.

They can only get better with experience and they’re doing pretty damn good already in my opinion.:D

I thought this was going to be Pandora as in the Internet radio station.

After the first two songs, I was much preferring the rockier side to the band, as in Only For You (I didn't like the slow bits in this one). Then I heard All I Ever Wanted and that sounds like the best of the three.

Just a heads up for you lot, they're playing tomorrow night at The Grey Horse in Kingston, 8:00, £4 entry. There's a few other bands there too so if your in the area come along should be a good night.
