I've been trying to do panoramas for some time, but i cant figure out how to do them, do you need any specific software or anything?
any guides anywhere?

cheers:)

If you take a series of shots photoshop (CS2 or later i think) can automatically stitch them together to make one large panorama with the photomerge tool.

Good tips for taking the shots in the first place:
~Use a tripod to keep the camera at the same point each shot
~Over lap shots by at least 25% to make joining them easier

Are you using an slr or a point and shoot camera?

The key to getting it right is the photos in the first place - if they are done correctly then putting them together can be done manually in photoshop quite easily.

Use a tripod with a 2 or 3 way head (preferably with a spirit level)
Shoot in Portrait
Shoot in manual and keep the exposure consistent across all of the shots
Leave a slight overlap on each shot to allow for easy registration

ive got a tripod, but a pretty bad one, should probably get a new one
im using a slr, a canon 400D
i had a go earlier on, but i keep getting different tones on surfaces..

you need to set the white balance to one mode, not auto, cloudy is probably the most appropriate for general use.

also once you focus your first shot, set the focus to manual so all your shots are at the same focus distance.

similar thing for aperture and exposure time. use auto to make a note of the correct values then dial them in on manual mode.

if you do all these then all the photos will be consistant with each other.

One thing to watch with panoramas is to make sure the exposure is consistent from one end to the other - even more important the wider field of view you go
