Panorama Software

A few years ago I tried taking my first panorama, the software that was available at the time wasn't great at matching up the photos and correcting distortion etc. so I did it manually in photoshop (time consuming but good results). Now I understand that the automatic stitching software is much better now, but can it deal with close range shots? The software I used in the past failed miserably if there was anything within about 10m, because of the large distortions, doing it manually can be pretty tricky at times, and I'm wondering whether there's an easier way. This is the pic that was difficult to stitch, things like the mesh sides and shadows made it very tricky to match up, think I did a fairly decent job of it tho, would current software be able to manage it?

Autostitch has always worked for me,

Free, Automatic and can deal with photos in any order - plud you can give it photos in a "grid" style for truely mAhoooosive panoramas.

Have a Google

I just had a go with Autopano Pro which seems good but I don't know if I want to pay £50 odd quid for something I'll hardly ever use.

Also just tried autostitch which couldn't find a panorama to make from the selected images that Autopano managed fine with. I tried adjusting some settings and that resulted in it crashing every time I tried to stitch the images together!

Typcial

If you post links to the images here - or email them to me - I don't mind having a play and seeing if I can get Autostitch to behave.
