I'm strongly considering investing in a new TV some time soon. I have my mind set on one of the Panny sets as by general consensus they seem to be the best option at this moment in time for my budget (£600 ish)

Only things is I'm not 100% sure on the differences in their range, S10, X10, G10... what are the differences? I see things like Freesat and NeoPDP being mentioned but I have no idea what the latter of those 2 things are

Can anybody enlighten me on the differences?

Freesat is free-to-air TV from a satellite dish. The G10s and above have a receiver that allows you to do this, including HD channels. All of them have freeview (free to air via a conventional aerial)

NeoPDP is their optimised plasma technology. Better brightness, supposedly less power usage, and generally thinner screens are the main features.

The G15 has Viera Cast (video over net, iplayer etc) built in and a few extra screen controls. If you've got a media PC or other media center then the G10 is the sweet spot as you can do all that already.

EDIT: I believe the S10 is a 1080p panel without neoPDP (fatter and less bright), the X10 is a non NeoPDP 720p screen.

Thanks for the reponse. I knew what freesat was at least :p

I've tried looking for more info since. The X10 seems much lower spec than the other 2.

So it comes down to the S10 or the G10. If being used primarily for SD-TV, HD-TV (Sky) and Blu-Ray. With only a smidge of gaming on the PS3. Will the S10 perform just as well as the G10? Would I even notice the difference?

Ah yeah, I didn't read your post properly sorry! :D

The S10 is a fine screen in it's own right and well rated. The NeoPDP screens do have an extra "wow" factor though, the brightness and saturation do make a difference, so side by side you would notice. best thing is to go down to your local Panasonic shop and see them side by side.

You've just missed out on the mega deals on the G range though- I got the 46" for £750, one of the last I think. You never know though, there's no reason the same deals won't transfer to the 50s sooner or later.

Personally, I'd say go for the G, and go for a size or two bigger than you need.

definatly go neopdp but you'll struggle to get any g10's as panasonic have stopped producing them and most places have sold out, so there selling the g15 in its place, which tbh is a great deal so snap one up .

On the new line of Panasonic Plasma tech, is the incorporation of Pioneer's Kuro technology.

With the announcement of 'Viera G2' plasma series it seems Panasonic may finally have given us a genuine successor to Pioneer's remarkable Kuro models. Sporting Pioneer's PDP Black panel tech the new range claims contrast ratios of an incredible 5,000,000:1. They also sport Pioneer's built in sensors which measure a room's ambient lighting and automatically tweak the display's brightness and temperature settings appropriately.
