Hi,

Is anyone one here using Papercut?

I'm looking to use if for a multi-site domain with a number of print servers. I'm really after its reporting functionality and the fact that it's cost and licencing plan look pretty good is a bonus too!

So who's using it and what do you think of it?

Thanks

We aren't (yet) but we will be looking at it shortly for the same reasons you have outlined.

We currently use PCounter - it seems to be stuck in the dark ages and not moving forward.

I can put you in touch with a few people who are using it if you wish (education environment).

Thats interesting, i've hear people making good noises about PCounter? What is you're impression of it?

It would be helpful to speak to someone who is using papercut on a large scale.

PCounter is great at the basics - but there is no API as far as I know - it's all based around command line which creates difficulties when you want to interface with other systems. There is very little in the way of customisation. They want you to spend a fortune buying additional Release stations for example cost a lot of $$. Papercut seems to do this at a fraction of the cost. In addition - PCounter requires additional licenses for each print server you have - Papercut doesn't.

My overall impression is - if you want a basic solution based around printers and photocopiers and you have the budget, PCounter works. If you want to customise and take things further.... it becomes more difficult and costly. We had this discussion amongst IT personnel at institutions in Wales and lots seem to be moving away from PCounter and to Papercut. Like I said - we will be considering this step shortly.

Where are you based? People I know will be based around Wales so I will pop out an e-mail and see if anyone can feed you some further information/give you a visit to see how it works.

E-mail in trust.

I use Papercut.

On a function level it works fairly well, haven't had an issues with it. At the moment I'm only using it on a single domain and using it's most basis charging functions.

They will let you have a 30 day trial.

They also do a free product called papercut logger. It just does basic logging, but you can extrapolate quite a lot of information using Pivot Tables in Excel.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'm using papercut logger at the mo and its working very well for me, but i was interested in the additional reporting abilities of the full product.

I'm based in Essex brainchylde, i'll send you a PM.

Thanks
