I've downloaded Paragon Backup 10.1 Free Edition, for drive imaging in case things go pear-shaped. It lacks some features of the commercial version, but it does the basic job.
Well, it might. I imaged my system partition to another hard drive, all was fine. I created a bootable CD from it so I could restore a system partition image. It was slow, but it finished without errors. Then I tried to boot off it, just as a test. Boot failed, all I had was a blank screen with a hyphen in the corner. No, it's not a command line prompt
It's not a massively urgent thing - my installation is working, this is just in case of trouble in the future. I could use something else instead.
I had the same problem with Acronis, which hanged at a message about starting the boot loader.
