Parallels WIn7 or XP

I have just recieved my Macbook Pro and would like to install Win 7 or XP using Parallels 5 but not sure which will be best? MBP is base model with 2GB.

Am I right in thinking XP will run faster as it uses less resources?

I've found that I'm happier with XP than Windows 7 under Parallels. They both work but XP is good enough for my needs and I don't see the point in throwing a more resource hungry OS into a VM.
