Paranoid about a Virus.

Hi All,

I might just be being paranoid, but I think I may have a virus on my PC. AVG doesn't see anything on scans, but keeps coming up saying it's found a dodgy file.

I want to do a scan without being logged into windows. Is there a bootable virus/malware/etc scanner I can use?

Could always scan in safe mode and also use different scanners such as MalwareBytes etc. Im pretty sure you can get a boot CD to boot in a live environment and scan the hard drive.

remove AVG

download combofix.exe from bleeping computers

run combofix.exe in safe mode

if it will not run YOU HAVE A VIRUS

once thats done install the "FREE" (not trial) version of malware bytes, update and scan

once that is done install microsoft security essentials and forget about avg...

Download latest Hirens or UBCD4WIN, both have decent and up to date AV/Malware packages to run from CD
