Parents Stranded in India

Never understood the need to visit these countries. After my auntie nearly got killed in the 1997 Egypt terrorist attack our whole family basically avoid that whole area like the plague. There is always something going on and you are almost guaranteed to get the trotts.

Plenty of other places around the world to visit.

I have nothing worthwhile to add but I hope you get some resolution soon OP, cannot image my parents stuck in Gloucester let alone Goa.

That post was a rollercoaster ride. :D

You had my attention with the terrorist attack, but the two bob bits sealed the deal.

Filed a complaint with their travel insurer (AXA), but they denied the claim citing "Force Majeure, they are not on their "gold" package and silver does not cover this.

Unfortunately this situation is about as force majeure as it gets. They're probably out of luck.

They are racking up large costs for new hotels, Gatwick airport parking, and dog boarding back home, new flights etc. Well over £1500 now.

Any possibility you, or someone else, could pick the car up from parking and move it somewhere else? Could someone pick up and housesit the dog? Not much to be done about the rest, sadly.

Yea, annoyingly for me relatives insist on going to places like Egypt. Crossing over that Africa or middle east line I'd like to be armed and wearing kevlar tbh.

Cultural enrichment, experiencing something you'd never see elsewhere, expand your horizons, different geography/fauna/flora...christ man

Better avoid London as well then...

Sorry what...

Your auntie got killed in a terrorist attack in Egypt so that makes India out of bounds... You do realise they're on entirely different continents?

That whole area? They're 3,000 miles away.

Where you are now is closer to Egypt than Goa is.

I have been to Australia, America, Japan and pretty much all of Europe including Ukraine before it kicked off. A great chunk of the Greek islands too. I still have all of South America to explore, Indonesia, South Africa etc. Heck there is plenty of places in the UK I would love to visit and I haven't even been to Ireland yet. Plenty of culture and enrichment still to see without having to go in such a volatile area.

Maybe I wasn't clear I was referring to the whole area in general. You can say the "middle east" if you want. Just so unstable but this is just my opinion and as shown by the OP his parents are stuck and no one can be bothered to help them.

You realise you would be just as stuck in Australia? Most flights there stopover in Dubai. Egypt is North Africa and India is in Asia... neither are the Middle East. I guess you can count Egypt but not India.

I’m still going to keep pushing on this, including through Resolver and other channels.

I also live about 3.5–4 hours from LGW with traffic, and since they are supposed to be flying home on Friday, it doesn’t really make sense for me to travel there now. The dog is also quite far away from me. As outlined earlier, there isn’t much that can be done immediately.

The visa issue is still unresolved, and the British Consulate hasn’t even bothered to reach out to my parents, which is frustrating. My father has managed to speak with the hotel and get the general manager involved, who has kindly offered assistance since they have not been getting anywhere with the police or the FRRO. There are only two days left before they are due to fly home, and this still hasn’t been resolved. His visa has now officially expired.
