What can you recommend? I was looking at Canon 110 but they've said that is defo too pricey.

I think many cameras in that price bracket are pretty much going to be the same with shortfalls here and there. Just look for a good brand, some good reviews and go for it.

Yes you're right. They went into John Lewis and picked up a Olympus SZ16 which actually looks remarkable for the money.
