Paris Olympics 2024

And finally the athletics begins tomorrow. Still waiting on the wrassling and weightlifting though!! Seems they've knocked out all the prelim rounds for the weightlifting so there's only medal events taking place. No A and B groups as they previously had. Bit of a bummer. AND Team GB only has one entrant in the whole event - a lady called Emily Campbell in +81kg.

It's quite interesting reading up on all these Olympic events, apparently weightlifting has been reformed due to past scandals with corruption of the governing body and doping. So it was dropped from LA 2028 and recently reinstated. Boxing is not on the cards for LA 2028 and with what has happened with the women's event I'm not sure it will be featured at all in the next Olympics.

After debuting in 2020 as optional events, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing have been promoted to the Summer Olympics' "core" event program. Boxing, modern pentathlon, and weightlifting had been provisionally removed due to governance issues; modern pentathlon and weightlifting were later reinstated following reform efforts, with the former expected to employ a new format replacing show jumping with obstacle course racing, while the decision on boxing was postponed. The 2028 Games will feature the debut of flag football and squash as optional sports, joined by the return of baseball/softball, cricket (for the first time since 1900) and lacrosse (for the first time since 1908).

They need to get snooker up in the Olympics. We'd definitely get a medal or two.
 
Squash is in for 2028 about time as well.

This one has really annoyed me. I'm not an amateur boxing scholar, nor do I watch many of the IBA. Basically my amateur boxing knowledge comes from Olympic cycles and the odd bit I hear from Andy Clarke.

Though the boxing events have always been some of my favourites because you get to have a sneak peak of the really talented prospects yet to cross over to the professional ranks.

But as sad as I am about it, I'm not shocked. Boxing has a awful corruption issue.
