Certainly in the old days there was money in a WR and keeping bumping it up by 1cm at time at different meets got you more money that's what Bubka used to do but not sure now.
Just mentioned something similar on the TV. His shoe contract pays him for WR's or something

Just said on BBC there's $$$$ each time the record is broken, so they beat it by 1cm and call it a day.
