I fancy a weekend trip to paris (never been.) The flight seems short enough that I could manage without any valium!

I have found some SUPER CHEAP flights.

The only thing is that they are to Beauvais airport, which appears to be a little outside of Paris, but there is a shuttle bus thingy from the airport to the city.
I have done somethign similar by the sounds of it when i flew to Girona airport for Barcelona. Has anyone done it?

Secondly, my planning is only at "woo ive found some flights" phase.

has anyone any recomendations on areas to stay?

TIA

get eurostar its a lot easier than flying

100% this. Do not bother flying to Paris, it's a pain, Eurostar is not expensive and is faster and more convenient than flying to Paris.

Infact actually ask yourself if you want to visit Paris at all. It's a lovely place but unless you particularly want to go there you can get a better citybreak elsewhere for less.

I've tried to go to Paris on numerous occasions now and always end up going further away for longer for less money. It's VERY expensive.

I specifically want to go to paris :) its been on my list of places to go for about the last year, but Ive always ended up doing other places first :)

doing eurostar from manchester on the same dates apparently takes 5h 31 mins, and costs 10 TIMES MORE,

I think ill fly :p

Once you've got the train down from Manchester to get to the Eurostar though, I suspect flying would be significantly quicker.

I flew Southampton to CDG last year, was easy enough, wouldn't call it 'a pain' at all really.

What dates?

How many people saying Eurostar have actually taken a look at recent prices?

Sure the airport is a way out but it's a far sight cheaper to do the plane/shuttle route.

If you want to go bog standard cheap however you can get a National Express coach for under £50. Takes a fair bit longer mind you.

I'd have thought it was quicker and easier to get from CDG to the centre of Paris than it is to get a train from Manchester to St Pancras.

Picking dates entirely at random, out on 12th March back on 15th.

Eurostar:

Depart London 1501, arrive Paris 18:17.
Depart Paris 11:13, arrive London 12:30.

Cost: £59 return.

Plane:

Easyjet is cheapest.

Luton 15:15, arrive CDG 17:35, get into Paris with bags at about 19:00.

CDG 18:05, arrive Luton 18:25.

Cost: £58 return.

So, from London, Eurostar is £1 more expensive and a billion times less cruddy and more convenient.

I appreciate that the OP is travelling from Manchester. Lets buy some advance purchase rail tickets from Manchester to Euston...

£30 return on trains which give you the right amount of time to get to and from St Pancras.

So, total cost on Eurostar from the centre of Manchester to the centre of Paris:

£89.

I think the train from CDG to Paris is under 45min. Manchester to London is NOT 45mins. From where the OP is, flying is the best route.

I've been to Paris in the Eurostar, it does take you right inside Paris but when I went, it was £90 return! About the same as flights back then.

Manchester to London is 2 hours. Getting from Euston to St Pancras and getting onto the Eurostar in time is 60 minutes. London to Paris is 2 hours 20 minutes.

Total centre of Manchester to Centre of Paris = 5 hours 20 minutes.

Manchester to Manchester Airport is 20 minutes + 90 minutes faffing, checking in and boarding. Flight is 1 hour 15 minutes. Getting bags and getting to train is 45 minutes. Train from CDG to Paris is 45 minutes.

Total centre of Manchester to Centre of Paris = 4 hours 35 minutes.

She has admitted she hates flying.

Flying saves less than an hour. Eurostar is awesome.

Do eurostar. Having flown and trained to france multiple times eurostar is by far the better option. Seriously why would you want to go through check-in instead of well, not going through check-in.

8- 10 feb.

Ryanair Manchester -Paris return flights for 2 people:
£36.32.

I see you've fallen for the RyanAir Con.

Lets go and try and buy those tickets and cost this out properly. You are correct that the base fare is £36.32. However...

Assuming you share a bag and only check one bag the total cost, after the administration charges and baggage charges is actually..

£90.32.

And you dont go to Paris, you go to Beauvais. It'll cost you 60 Eur for both of you to get to and from Beauvais and it's over and HOUR AND A HALF away on the bus!

Ryanair :D The cheapest way to end up hugely out of pocket. IIRC my dad ended up paying ~£85 for a 99p flight

I gave up on both Ryanair and Easyjet in the end when I went to Berlin and just booked with BMI right out of Heathrow. No faff, no cheese, just plain prices, sensible timings, into and out of the airports that are actually near where you want to go.
